For Hughes, he has gone from being the most dominant welterweight in UFC history to struggling to remain afloat in the UFC’s 170-pound division. However, anytime Hughes takes on a Gracie guy, there’s instant motivation considering his past with the legendary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu family.

Having already destroyed two Gracies in Renzo and Royce and their best student in Matt Serra, Hughes will be looking for a third tonight. "It’s nothing personal for me. I don’t want to be called 'The Gracie Killer,'" Hughes said this week while promoting this fight. "I like Renzo and Royce. They were just the guys the UFC put in front of me."

Nevertheless, Hughes’ opponent tonight, might not feel the same way about this personal feud. Considering Almeida was in Renzo’s corner in Abu Dhabi for UFC 112, watching Hughes humiliate his Master isn’t something the Brazilian-American is about to forget.

"I was in the corner … and I asked for the fight then," Almeida told reporters with a serious look in his eyes. "I thought a big part of your team is having your training partner’s back. It was definitely an emotional night for me but nothing personal. [This is] just a chance to fight a UFC Hall of Famer and someone who has done a lot for the sport."
