Juan Manuel Marquez Wins by TKO vs. Joel Casamayor: Juan Manuel Marquez (49-4-1, 36 KOs) made an impressive 135-lb debut on Saturday with a powerful TKO victory over Cuban defector, Joel Casamajor (36-4-1). After allowing Casamajor to dictate the pace of the fight for most of the night, Marquez unloaded a flurry of punches in the final minute of the 11th round , stunning the Cuban veteran. Juan M. Marquez began this fight a bit tentative as the 37-year old veteran took full advantage, and got ahead on the judge’s scorecards. However, in the final minute of the 11th everything changed, drastically. In the culminating minutes, Casamayor ate a Marquez’s right, which spun the Cuban’s head. Marquez then displayed superb finishing skills by unloading a series of power blows to Casamayor’s mug. With about 7 seconds left in the round, the Cuban’s night was done as Casamayor went down for good on consecutive right-hand bombs. After the bout, a graceful Casamayor said, “I fought as a champion, but Marquez was the best this night.” After his big win, Marquez said: “I figured this would be a tough fight until the end, but I was a more intelligent fighter,” Marquez said. “I was watching out for myself, and I knew how to neutralize his left hand. I threw all my combinations, because I knew I couldn’t win with just my right hand." This victory certainly helps Marquez's case as one of the top-fighters, but at 34-years of age, time is quickly running out on the Mexican warrior.
