Mayweather Defeats Marquez by Unanimous Decision

Mayweather Defeats Marquez by Unanimous Decision: The much anticipated return of former world No.1 pound-for-pound, Floyd Mayweather ended up being a huge success Saturday night at the MGM Grand. Even after a long 21-month layoff, Money Mayweather displayed the same speed, precision, and defensive illusiveness that rocketed him to the top of the world rankings and allowed him to capture 6 world titles in five separate weight classes. “He surprised me with the first knockdown,” Marquez said. “He hurt me in that round, but not any other time. I don’t want to make any excuses, but the weight was the problem. He’s too fast.”

The most amazing part of it all is that there was no ring rust at all from the champ, who was very critical of his performance. “I’ve been off for two years, so I felt like it took me a couple of rounds to really know I was back in the ring again,” Mayweather said. “I know I’ll get better.”

Despite coming in much lighter than Mayweather and giving up a significant reach advantage, Juan Manuel Marquez showed the world why he’s held at such high regard. Marquez was the underdog [+300 ML] from the start, and when Pretty Boy Floyd [-400 ML] failed to make weight, everyone assumed the heavier welterweight would end the fight via the knockout.

“Marquez is tough as nails,” Mayweather added. “He’s a great little man. He was really hard to fight, and he kept taking some unbelievable shots… He’s a great small man,” Mayweather said. “Don’t forget, I came from a small weight class too, so I know when you’re in front of a great fighter. I think he brought his best tonight.”

After the fight, all the talk was about who’s next for Floyd Mayweather: Manny Pacquiao or Sugar Shane Mosley? Well, according to some of the rumors swirling around, Golden Boy Productions' Oscar De La Hoya allegedly paid for some of Mayweather’s tax debts, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him fight one of Oscar’s people… (Coughing) Mosley! After his victory, Mayweather was called out by Sugar Shane, it was quiet a show! The two had to be separated by Golden Boy representatives as it became the Jerry Springer Show!
