Floyd Mayweather Owes 5.6 Million to IRS in Tax Debt: Former No.1 pound-for-pound boxer, Floyd Mayweather, may have had a successful return to the ring after a 21-month layoff by defeating Juan Manuel Marquez by unanimous decision. However, the Internal Revenue Service isn’t laying off Mayweather’s Money, as Pretty Boy Floyd is reported to owing $5.6 million in back taxes to the government.
According to various reports, the IRS threatened to take the money owed from his purse from last Saturday
night’s fight, before Mayweather finally agreed to pay the aforementioned sum. This is not a joke!
The Executive Director for the Nevada Athletic Commission, Keith Kizer stated that the IRS sent the commission a charge notification demanding Mayweather’s unpaid 2007 taxes to “be deducted from his $10 million fight purse”.
According to Kizer, the IRS backed off when Mayweather agreed to pay the money a week later. Money Mayweather’s tax attorney stated that the champ “satisfied all his IRS debts, and federal officials never intended to take his purse”.
During the post-fight press conference, questions regarding rumors that Golden Boy Productions and Oscar De La Hoya volunteerly paid for Mayweather’s back taxes were brought to their attention. When asked, the “Golden Boy” and the “Pretty Boy” denied the allegations and dismissed them as bogus. After defeating Marquez on Saturday night, one of Golden Boy Productions’ fighters, Sugar Shane Mosley got on Mayweather’s face which is usually an indication that a future fight might be in the works… you make the call!
