Ricardo Mayorga Quits Boxing to Fight in MMA?

Ricardo Mayorga Quits Boxing to Fight in MMA? The ever-controversial, former welterweight champion (28-7-1, 22 KOs) Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga is allegedly leaving the world of boxing to become a Mixed Martial Artist. Now, this is what happens when you get Ray Mercer and guys like Kimbo Slice trying to become Ultimate Fighters! Please, give me a break!

On Monday, Mayorga stated that he anticipates his fist MMA fight will be early next year. The Nicaraguan boxer is currently in the midst of a legal dispute with longtime corrupt promoter, Don King, as the 35-year-old brawler struggles to get out of his boxing contract with Don King Promotions.

“I am a fighter by nature, I learned to fight on the streets of Nicaragua before I learned to box,” Mayorga said. “For many years, I have wanted to try MMA. Now I hope to get my opportunity.

“I have had a few training sessions and once I get the approval that I can start doing MMA, I will learn even more quickly,” El Matador added. “I consider it easier than boxing in that you can use your legs to kick your opponent. The idea of using smaller gloves also has me very anxious to try it… Boxing has many more rules.”

Wow, you cannot get any more ignorant that that! “Easier than boxing” and “boxing has many more rules”? WOW! This guy is dumber than I ever thought he was. Sorry Mayorga, I really underestimated your idiocy… my apologies. This guy doesn’t belong in MMA or boxing. Ricardo Mayorga belongs either in a circus or in the WWE. Will somebody please knock this guy into retirement? So sad, that after a true gentleman and great champion like Alexis Arguello, this is the new era in Nicaraguan boxing… what a shame!
