UFC 89 Predictions: Michael Bisping vs Chris Leben

by Abe Luciano on Friday, October 17th, 2008

UFC 89 Predictions Bisping vs. Leben: On Saturday, October 18th at 9 PM ET (6 PM PT) the UFC presents, UFC 89: Bisping vs. Leben live from the NIA in England, and 100% free on SPIKE. Saturday night’s main event features the hometown hero, Michael “The Count” Bisping (17-1-0), taking on "The Crippler", Chris Leben (18-4-0).

Expert MMA Odds-makers at BodogLife.com have posted the best Sports Odds for Saturday’s UFC 89. In the main event of the evening, Michael Bisping is [-240] Online Sports Betting Odds favorite against the Sports Odds underdog, Chris Leben [+190].

I don’t know that I would have this fight so one-sided, because of Bisping’s and Leben’s fighting styles. Look for these fighters to remain on their feet and take some pretty good hacks at each other. They're both very tough fighters, which prefer the stand up over the ground game.

The Betting Odds favorite, Bisping, is a technichal fighter who's in terrific shape, great cardio, and decent knockout power. After going down in weight-class, the 29-year-old seems like a perfect fit for the 185-lb (middleweight) division. The only blemish in his resume is a split-decision loss to Rashad Evans in UFC 78. Bisping was able to bounce back from his only defeat by winning his last two fights via TKO over Charles McCarthy and Jason Day.

The 28-year-old, Chris Leben, is a very powerful brawler who possesses a devastating right-hook, and can really take a punch. After his appearance on “The Ultimate Fighter”, Leben became one of the top-UFC prospects. "The Crippler" got off to a fast start, winning his first five UFC fights — including victories over Patrick Cote (14-4-0) and Luigi Fioravanti (13-4-0) — before getting KO’d by then-UFC-newcomer, Anderson “The Spider” Silva (22-4-0).

I like Michael Bisping [-240], but especially if this fight goes the distance. Because of how incredibly fit and disciplined this guy is, and the fact that his MMA skills are superior than Chris Leben's [+190], Bisping wins this fight convincingly, and perhaps takes a step closer at a mega-showdown with Anderson Silva in the future.
