According to MMA experts at SPORTSBETTING.COM, Fedor Emelianenko [-600 ML] will enter the cage on Saturday night as an overwhelming sports betting odds favorite to hand Brett Rogers [+425 ML] his first defeat
of his professional career. All the action in this MMA bout gets underway at 9 PM ET (6 PM PT) and it will be broadcasted live, nationwide on your local CBS Sports station.
Fedor Vladimirovich Emelianenko, Pride Heavyweight Championship and World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts Heavyweight title-holder, was born on September 28, 1976 in Rubizhne, Luhansk, Ukrainian SSR. Fedor, who’s fighting orthodox style consists of Sambo, Boxing, Judo and Wrestling is considered by many “the baddest man on the planet”.
Some have even gone on to qualify Emelianenko as the greatest MMA fighter of all time, but that’s always open to debate. One thing that is certain, however, is that fighting runs this Russian’s blood. Emelianenko has an older sister and two younger brothers, one (Aleksander Emelianenko) who is supposed to make his professional MMA debut in the near future.
Fedor was first introduced to martial arts as a very young Sambo and Judo practitioner training under Vasiliy Ivanovich Gavrilov and later Vladimir Mihailovich Voronov. He remained a student until 1997 when he attained an official certification of "Master of Sports" in Sambo — the art of self-defense without weapons through grappling — and judo.
Fedor then went on to join the Russian national team, earning a bronze medal in Russian Judo Championship in 1998. Emelianenko then added the only missing piece in his arsenal and began training under striking under coach Alexander Vasilievich Michkov. On May 21, 2000, at the age of 25, Fedor Emelianenko made his professional MMA debut by defeating Martin Lazarov (2:24 of the 1st round) by Guillotine at Rings Russia – Russia vs. Bulgaria.
Emelianenko has gone on to out together one of the finest MM resumes in history. With a professional record of 30 wins, 1 loss and 1 no contest, the only blemish of his impeccable career came on a technical knockout, first round loss due to a cut against Tsuyoshi Kosaka. So in reality, Fedor has never really been beaten despite taking on the who’s who of the MMA world of yesterday and today. That includes:
(Win) Andrei Arlovski – KO (Punch) – Affliction: Day of Reckoning
(Win) Tim Sylvia – Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) – Affliction: Banned
(Win) Matt Lindland – Submission (Armbar) – Bodog Fight: Clash of the Nations
(Win) Mark Coleman – Submission (Armbar) – PRIDE 32: The Real Deal
