Floyd Mayweather Jr. showed to the world Saturday night why he is the undisputed welterweight and pound-4-pound champ in boxing with his spectacular 10th round KO over Ricky Hatton. Mayweather looked a tad bit nervous as the fighters faced off in the middle of the ring before the opening bell. As expected “The Hitman” Hatton came charging out of his corner and he nailed the “Pretty Boy” in the chops with a jab that knocked Floyd into the ropes. Mayweather regained his composure but was clearly bothered by Hatton’s relentless pressure early on.BodogLife.com had Floyd Mayweather Jr. as a -205 boxing betting favorite.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. KO's Hatton in 10! Hatton didn’t give Mayweather an inch to breathe as he stayed on his chest mauling and ripping shots from close quarters. There were plenty of dirty tactics being used on the inside as these fighters clawed and wrestled at each other throughout. In the third round the “Pretty Boy” was able to gain some separation and land some telling right hands that managed to cut Hatton over the eye. The cut never became a factor but Floyd exposed a hole in Ricky’s defense as he began landing lead right hand counters with increasing frequency.

Hatton had his best round in the 5th as he bullied Mayweather and managed to land some clean shots with Jr.'s back to the ropes. The bout was closely contested and fought in a phone booth, but when Hatton began to tire in the 8th round Mayweather started unloading some laser like punches that repeatedly snapped the Brit’s head back.

The pro Hatton crowd complete with a band in the stands tried to rally their boy with their soccer like songs and chants, but they were silenced for good in round 10 when Floyd nearly ripped Hatton’s head off with a perfect left hook. The pride of Manchester, England bravely got up but Mayweather showed his killer instinct as he blitzed Hatton with a combination of accurate punches that finished Hatton for good at 1:35 of the 10th round.

Floyd said afterwards that he is bored with boxing and could retire but with big money fights with Miguel Cotto, Paulie Malignaggi and Oscar De La Hoya out there, you can expect to see boxing’s brightest star back in action soon enough.
