by Abe Luciano on Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Rafael Dias vs Sami Aziz lightweight fight showed that the fighters in Bodogfight are world class caliber as both of these MMA pugs showed their skills. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Diaz, 7-1-1, trains out of the well esteemed Top Team gym in Coconut, Creek, FL. Aziz, 2-0-1, is a wrestler\boxer from Sweden that was a member of the Swedish national boxing team in the amateurs.

In round 1 the powerfully built 5'6" Aziz came straight at Dias landing a right hand that put an ugly red mouse under the Brazilians left eye just 1 minute in. Rafael rebounded by showed good ring generalship as he used his mobility to create space before he unloaded a flying right knee that landed solid on Sami. Dias surprisingly controlled the stand-up while also being aggressive on the ground trying to submit Dias.Bodogfight: Rafael Dias vs Sami Aziz

In round 2 Aziz started getting in some good ground positions to land some light but effective shots. With 1:30 left Aziz blasted Rafael with a hard flying left knee that wobbled Dias. Aziz showed good defense throughout with good head movement with his stand-up and excellent ground defense.

The 5'9" Dias is not a fluid boxer but he makes up for it with an attacking offense complete with uppercuts, backhands and flying knees. Aziz continually unloaded heavy overhand rights but was unable to hit the target. Sami showed some nice wrestling moves but Rafael continually was able to gain leverage with his aggressive submission attempts. Aziz was finally able to hammer home a right hand to the forehead with :30 seconds left but the Brazilian showed a solid chin as he recovered quickly. In the end neither fighter did quite enough to win as the fight was declared a draw by the judges.
