UFC 107 Results: Last night, the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee witnessed an action-packed event that saw lightweight champ, BJ Penn cement his legacy as one of the most dominant little guys in UFC history, as well as former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir walking the walk after dishing out plenty of talk.
UFC 107 Results odds makers at BODOG.com were right on the money once again, as both big winners, BJ Penn [-275 ML] and Frank Mir [-210 ML], were listed as pretty significant betting UFC 107 Results odds favorites.
After trashing Cheick Kongo’s ground game to the point of calling it the worst in MMA, a visibly bulkier Mir stepped into the cage and delivered a dominating performance.
With the Kongo being the better striker, Mir stood toe-to-toe with the affronted underdog, faked a right, and delivered an overhead left that put the Frenchman on his wallet. "He had a very erect stance,” Mir explained. “My boxing coach Jimmy Gifford noticed that. I knew if I slipped my head to the right, he would stay erect."
Mir then did exactly what he said out to do, pouncing and exposed Kongo’s lack-of ground game by putting the big man to sleep with a rather easy Guillotine. Refusing to tap, Kongo chose to take a nap at 1:12 of the very first round.
"On a personal level, I really do hope that Brock (Lesnar) gets healthy. He's a father and husband," Mir said after the victory. "Get healthy so that I can redeem myself. I will hurt you and that will be the last of it."
As far as Brock Lesnar’s return to the Octagon and what that means in the heavyweight division, UFC president Dana White addressed that issue during the post-fight press conference.
"We won't know for probably another month-and-a-half," White said of the champ’s fighting future. "(Lesnar) had that minor surgery. He's going to change his diet, do some things, and see what happens."
White also indicated that Lesnar’s career is still very much in danger, although the champ appears to be doing much better now. "We still have to wait here a little bit and see what's going to happen to (Lesnar)," he added. "Maybe he can come back. Maybe he can't. I don't know. We've got to see what happens to him first.
"I'm going to wait and see whether he has to have this major surgery before I make any big decisions. … But it won't be long. We'll know about Brock in a month-and-a-half, and then I'll make that decision."
On the main event of the night, lightweight champion Penn was set to make his third title-defense against a guy many thought would be his greatest challenge at 155… not even close!
Diego Sanchez turned into BJ’s training doll, as he literally hit him with every single part of his body. In the fifth round, while getting absolutely teed-off on, Penn connected with a right kick to Diego’s head that literally split half of his forehead wide open. That was enough to earn a fifth round stoppage, in one of the worse beating you’ll ever see!
“In 10 years of being in this business, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anybody more busted up than Diego is right now,” White said. “His whole lip is split open in half, in two different places. When I say split open, it’s torn down to this stuff down here (indicating a point on his chin). His forehead is as open as (Marvin Eastman), the kid that Vitor Belfort kneed (at UFC 43). They pulled that thing wide open. His face? I think his nose is broken. I don’t even know how Diego kept coming forward. He’s a tough kid, man. I’m almost positive his nose was broken by the third round. That Tony Robbins s*** works.”
