Eddie Alvarez vs Scott Henze pitted Bodogfight’s welterweight champion Alvarez against tough mid -western wrestler Henze in a three-round bout. Before the opening bell both fighters had incredibly ripped physiques, but Henze had a good 15 Lbs on Alvarez after hydrating overnight.
From the opening bell, Alvarez applied smart pressure coming forward with some fluid boxing skills. Henze, 17-7-2, tried to avoid the onslaught by voluntarily dropping to his knees in an attempt to engage Alvarez, 10-0, in a ground battle. The champion intelligently turned his back as Henze layed on his back trying to sucker Alvarez in, causing the referee to bring Henze to his feet on several occasions.
Once standing, the 5'9" Philadelphian Alvarez’s boxing skills started to show their quality as his superior footwork and rhythm was making him an elusive target as he pursued Henze. Henze made another attempt to drop to his knees but this time he was met by a searing Alvarez left hook that wobbled him before the referee stood him back up. Once to his feet Henze appeared hurt and Alvarez smelled blood.
Almost immediately Alvarez executed a take-down that put him in a favorable position to do damage. Once in position Alvarez went to work like a pirana unloading a two-fisted ground assault that was very impressive. At one point during the assault, Alvarez stood up and quickly stomped on Henze’s abdomen with his full 168 Lbs. before returning to deliver more punches. Alvarez was landing some flush shots to the mouth with good velocity as Henze covered up meekly. Without Henze returning fire, his corner wisely through in the towel to save their man from permanent physical damage. The 1st round KO was particularly impressive because of the fact that Henze had never been previously stopped before Alvarez’s KO.
