Dominick Guinn vs Robert Hawkins is a 10 round heavyweight bout in Canada between the big boys to set off another season of ESPN 2's Friday Night Fights. Dominick Guinn is one of the underachieving fighters in the heavyweight division. The 6'3" Guinn who was an amateur star, has a flashing left hook, sound fundamentals and a solid chin, but he simply doesn’t stay focused in the ring. BodogLife.com has Dominick Guinn as a -550 boxing betting favorite. With Guinn, 28-5, 19 KO’s, you never know quite what your going to get. Two fights ago Guinn looked like a force once again with his 2nd round destruction over wily vet Zuri Lawrence. But in his last fight against quick fisted Eddie Chambers he was beat to the punch and outboxed all night long in a unanimous decision loss that saw him get shutout 100-90 on one judges scorecard. Hawkins is a 37-year-old third tier fighter that knows how to handle himself like a pro. Hawkins, 22-10, 7 KO’s, is a tough Philly southpaw that has fought a list of who’s who of prospects and contenders in the heavyweight division. The stocky 5'11" 250 Lb. Hawkins has a decent defense and knows how to fight on the inside, but his punch output is even less than the lethargic Guinn’s. Hawkins has a tricky right hook that he uses well but his power and handspeed are average. Hawkins also fought Eddie Chambers over two years ago and he gave a better account of himself than Guinn did, so an upset is possible if Guinn decides to coast. Hawkins has lost 6 of his last 7 fights but he did spring an upset a few months ago in an off TV 6-rounder against hard hitting Terry Smith in a big upset win. Can Hawkins play the role of spoiler in yet another Guinn comeback attempt? EinsteinPicks has the best boxing connections in the game.
