Bernard Hopkins Fighter Bio PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 15 April 2008

Bernard Hopkins will be back in the ring Saturday night as the true Light-Heavyweight champion fresh off his first defense against top-pound-4-pound fighter Winky Wright. Hopkins’s will be met by a motivated Joe Calzaghe that is out to show that the 43-year old is indeed an old man. It can be argued that the Philly fighter has only been beaten once in his career by Roy Jones Jr. almost 15 years ago. Bernard Hopkins is a +190 boxing betting underdog at Bodoglife.com.

The 6’1” Hopkins fought most of his career as a 160 Lb. fighter but he has transformed himself into a Bernard Hopkins Fighter Biorock solid 175 Lb. boxer with the help of fitness guru Mackie Shilstone. Hopkins is currently being trained by Freddie Roach and John David Jackson who add to the brilliant boxing IQ that Hopkins possess. Few fighters in the game are as tough as Hopkins who has an unflappable will and chin.

Bernard still has agility but he has lost a couple steps in the speed department. As a boxer Bernard can pretty much adapt to any style and he can do everything very well: Slug, box, counterpunch or be slick. B-Hop has pretty much every punch in the book but his left hook has the most juice. Hopkins is still regarded as a top pound-4-pound fighter but his fighting odometer is running high.

Joe Calzaghe Fighter Bio PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 15 April 2008

Joe Calzaghe has been longing for a fight with Light-Heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins and on Saturday night he will get the opportunity to take the belt on HBO. Calzaghe is a fighter that has never learned how to lose not only his perfect pro career but also an extended amateur career. Joe has the natural ability to evade punches while mixing in offensive combinations to box opponents socks off. Joe Calzaghe is a -230 boxing betting favorite at sportsbook.com.

Calzaghe has some of the best legs in boxing with fast feet and great endurance. The 6” Joe is only anJoe Calzaghe Fighter BioJoe Calzaghe vs Bernard Hopkins OVER\UNDER is 11.5 rounds with the OVER at -300. above-average puncher but he is a physically strong, durable fighter that is tough to rock. Trained by his dad Enzo Calzaghe, Joe is a confident man with a complete trust in his corner. Joe’s best weapons are his right hook to both the head or body and his ability to flurry without letting his opponent get their punches off.

Joe Calzaghe has had chronic hand problems that have plagued him for years and could be a factor in the Hopkins fight. Calzaghe has also fought  his entire career at 168 Lbs. but he will be fighting Hopkins at a career high 175. Joe Calzaghe is regarded as on of the top-pound-4-pound fighters in the world but it can be argued that he has never beaten even a top-10 pound-4-pound fighter in his career.

Miguel Cotto vs Alfonso Gomez Fight Result PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 April 2008

When Miguel Cotto fights from now on he needs to come with his own warning label warning his opponents that they might be permanently damaged after their bout. Alfonso Gomez learned the hard way as the all-effort Mexican reality TV “Contender” got thrashed by 5th round KO in devastating fashion. From the opening bell Gomez, 18-3-2, 8 KO’s, was outgunned by a stronger, faster and meaner primal animal named Cotto, 32-0, 26 KO‘s. Miguel Cotto was a 10-1 betting favorite at Sportsbetting.com

Miguel came out relaxed and brimming with confidence as he worked his way into a groove by abusing Gomez with riveting combinations. By the beginning of the second round Gomez’s face was already pinkMiguel Cotto vs Alfonso Gomez Fight ResultTOTAL round proposition of 9.5 rounds. from the baseball bat punches from the prime 28-year old Cotto. In the 3rd round Gomez was dealt a crippling left hook to the solar plexus that sent him down grimacing. Alfonso bravely made it to his feet and took his beating like a man. The fight went UNDER on the

Gomez is not a bad boxer\puncher and he showed all-around skills banging the body effectively, but Cotto is just at a testosterone fueled best right now. After each round Cotto seemed to get stronger and more confident as he hit while not getting hit with evil punches that tore through Gomez’s guard. In the 5th round Cotto decide to turn boxer on the game Gomez who was applying pressure. Cotto got on his toes and showed off his agility before stepping in with a jackhammer jab that knocked Gomez on his butt. After the round ended Gomez was a broken man and Cotto was just seeming to have his usual assassin fun. The ring doctor took mercy on Gomez and stopped the bout at the end of 5.

Miguel Cotto vs. Margarito is next on deck July 26 in what should be a legendary Latino war for the ages. I will make the early line on Cotto at -180 favorite in Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito.

Glen Johnson gets robbed against Chad Dawson! PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 13 April 2008

It was despicable how bad Glen Johnson got robbed by judges Peter Trematerra, Jack Woodburn and Nicolas Hidalgo in his fight with Chad Dawson Saturday night. Those three judging magoos snaked the earnest and hard working 39-year old year old true champion Glen Johnson who kicked Chad Dawson’s ass for 12 rounds. In practically every round of the Glen Johnson vs Chad Dawson fight Johnson had Dawson hurt and staggering from his brutal hooks, uppercuts and crosses. Johnson was a +290 boxing betting underdog at bodoglife.com

Dawson gave Johnson his best shots with explosive salvos but Johnson put the heat on Dawson, and Glen Johnson gets robbed against Chad Dawson!was never hurt by the strong 6’1” 25-year old’s punches. Both fighters hammered away with body shots all night long, but Dawson was  feeling the effects, and was running for his life by the 7th round. The old, savvy, pro, Johnson, broke Dawson down with his pressure and volumes of accurate punches down the stretch. Dawson was running when Johnson nailed him with a dynamite right hand bolo punch that had Dawson out on his feet in the 10th round. Dawson bloodied and battered, clutched at Johnson for dear life, as Johnson bullied Dawson around the ring like a ragdoll. Johnson couldn’t finish the job as Dawson survived the round.

In the 11th and 12th round Johnson owned the still hurt Dawson. Dawson showed his gameness by unloading with some flashy combos but Johnson’s great defense rolled with most of Dawson’s heavy punches. The final scores read 117-111 all for a dubious win for still W.B.C champion Chad Dawson who was booed by the crowd. Dawson fought a good fight but he was beaten without question. My scorecard read 116-111 for Glen Johnson one of boxings few good guys who got screwed after fighting the fight of his life by bum judges: Peter Trematerra, Jack Woodburn and Nicolas Hidalgo. Johnson emotionally said this after the bout:

“I can’t believe they would do this to me when I‘m on my last leg…Something needs to be done about boxing…It’s all about politics and who you know…I told Dawson’s promoter I would give Dawson a rematch if he lost…” Dawson on the other hand seemed completely uninterested in fighting Johnson again while the crowd booed him. You really have to feel for the hard working good guy Johnson. Those judges took the dirty money and they could careless about all the blood, sweat and tears Johnson put in to prepare for Dawson. Glen “The Gentleman” has every right to have a bad taste in his mouth. Simply disgusting.

Miguel Cotto vs Alfonso Gomez Betting Preview PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 12 April 2008

Alfonso Gomez is out to shock the world and tonight when he faces Miguel Cotto for the W.B.A welterweight title he will do just that if he beats the top-5 pound for pound killer Cotto, as Gomez is a +800 boxing betting underdog.

The 27-year old Mexican/American Alfonso Gomez, 18-3-2, 8 KO’s, has proven to be a legit top-15 contender with his 8th round KO demoltion of fading Italian warrior Arturo Gatti in his last fight. Cotto, 31-0, 25 KO’s, is regarded as the #1 man right behind Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the welterweight division after outfighting “Sugar” Shane Mosely for a 12-round UD in his last bout. The OVER\UNDER is 9.5 rounds with the OVER at -170 for Miguel Cotto vs Alfonso Gomez.

Miguel Cotto vs Alfonso Gomez Betting PreviewThe 5’9” Gomez will be the bigger man in this fight and he has shown that his technique of fighting inside or outside are both above-average. Gomez is a decent puncher but Cotto has the heavier hands in this fight by a good margin. Gomez might also be a tad faster than Cotto but Gomez has less stamina than the iron-willed Puerto Rican Cotto who takes opponents legs with his piercing body shots.  Cotto can be dropped but he has never been kept down.

Does the bigger Gomez have the firepower to keep the hard hitting superstar down for the 10 count?  Both of these guys swell up will this fight go past 10 rounds? Buy my winning boxing bet with expert analysis on this fight tonight between Miguel Cotto vs Alfonso Gomez.
