2013 British Open Odds

tiger claret jugWith the golf season underway it is never too early to take a look ahead at the season’s biggest events, which, obviously, includes the 142nd Open Championship. Offshore bookmaker Bovada.lv has already posted 2013 British Open Odds and it has Tiger Woods and Rory McIlory, the two top ranked players in the world according to the Official World Golf Rankings, listed as 9/1 co-favorites. Luke Donald, the OWGR’s third ranked player, is a third choice at 16/1 odds while Lee Westwood, a runner-up at the 2010 Open Championship, is drawing 18/1 odds to win his first major.

Tiger Woods (9/1): Tiger has worked himself back into exceptional form; however, at the conclusion of last season, he was still not quite his former self. His 2013 season got started on a sour note as he missed the cut at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championships (finished third last year), but he remains a top choice among bettors and odds makers when it comes to the majors. Woods’ three Claret Jugs have drawn them back to his corner for this year’s Open Championship.

Rory McIlroy (9/1): While McIlroy is no Tiger Woods, it is obvious he is the next big thing. The 23 year old Northern Ireland native, who finished atop the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings (€5,519,118) and the PGA Tour’s Money List ($8,047,952) last season, has won two majors over the last two years (U.S. Open, PGA Championship) and he tied for third at the 2010 British Open. It seems like a matter of time before he captures another major championship.

The 2013 British Open will be played at Muirfield in East Lothian, Scotland; the event is scheduled to get underway on July 14th. Muirfield has hosted the Open Championship 15 times with the most recent being the 2002 British Open (Ernie Els).
