The PGA Tour heads to Augusta, Georgia this week for the season’s first major, so its time to get your 2012 Masters Predictions now. The golfing world is abuzz with anticipation for this weekend’s event as the world’s best players, including Tigers Woods, Rory McIlory, and Phil Mickelson, descend on the beautiful Augusta National Golf Club. Early Golf Odds are favoring Woods, at +300 moneyline odds, to win the 15th major of his career.
It had been over 30 months since Tiger Woods won a PGA Tour event, but he finally snapped that extended streak two weekend’s ago with a victorious turn at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Florida. Woods major drought still lives on, though, with his last major title coming at the 2008 U.S. Open. That makes for big drama this week, especially with Tiger showing signs of returning to his former self.
If Woods is to add another major championship to his list, The Masters makes a great deal of sense given his past successes at the event. The Stanford product has won four Green Jackets and he has finished no worse than 22nd at Augusta since turning pro in 1997. In fact, Woods, even with his recent woes, has registered a top 10 finish at The Masters in each of the last six years.
Going into last year’s Masters Tiger had recorded 44th, 33rd, 10th, and 24th place finishes, but that did not keep him from logging another impressive Augusta showing. Woods shot a 10 under par 278 after posting a 66 in the second round and a 67 on Sunday.
Certainly calling a winner in any golfing a event is a difficult task, but Woods is as good a pick as any considering his Augusta record. It would go against much historical precedent for him not to be a factor in this week’s chase for the coveted Green Jacket.
