2012 Masters Results

bubba watson green jacketThe 76th Masters Tournament ended in a playoff yesterday when Bubba Watson defeated South African Louis Oosthuizen to claim the coveted Green Jacket. The victory marked Watson’s first career major victory and his fourth PGA Tour win. 2012 Masters Results show Watson earning $1,440,000 for his efforts at Augusta National this weekend; he now ranks first on the 2012 PGA Tour money list with a total of $3,124,138 in winnings this season. Golf odds had Watson listed at +3150 prior to the start of the tournament, meaning the Florida native’s victory paid $3150 for every $100 wagered.

Odds to win the Masters 2012 were anything but in Bubba Watson’s favor when the Masters got underway last Thursday, but those numbers did little to derail the Georgia graduate. Watson kept a steady through four days of play, posting scores of 69, 71, 70, and 68 at the legendary par 72, 7,435 yards course.

Those results would not garner Watson his first Green Jacket, though, but instead a playoff with 2012 Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen. Watson, who hails from Bagdad, Florida, kept his cool as the action extended (even in the most dire of circumstances), parring holes 18 and 10 to eliminate Oosthuizen and record his fourth career PGA Tour win.

While Watson’s scorecard looked benign, he was required to pull a rabbit out of the proverbial hat on the last hole of the playoff. Watson drove his tee shot deep into the rough on the 10th hole, a development that seemingly would give Oosthuizen his second major championship. The 33 year old, who moved to No. 4 in the Official World Golf Rankings as a result of his Masters win, was undeterred by the harsh circumstances, hooking a masterful shot off the pine needles and on to the green.

Watson suggested the shot was indicative of his entire approach to the game of golf.

“I attack. I always attack,” Watson said. “I don’t like to go to the center of the greens. I want to hit the incredible shot. Who doesn’t? That’s why we play the game of golf, to pull off the amazing shot.”

In this case Watson’s amazing shot resulted in an incredible feat as he will forever be known as Masters champion.
