There is almost a full eight months of golf left on the 2012 European Tour schedule, but the Race to Dubai is starting to heat up with players like Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, and Louis Oosthuizen battling for the top spot in the money list rankings. The latest Golf Odds at Bovada.lv have McIlroy, the current Race to Dubai leader, listed as a heavy 8 to 11 favorite to secure the prestigious earnings title. Luke Donald, last year’s winner and the No. 1 ranked player according to the Official World Golf Rankings, is listed at 9 to 1 odds to successfully defend his crown.
The Favorites -
Rory McIlroy (8/11): The smart money is on McIlroy even though the return is not as great. The Northern Ireland Native presently leads the pack with a total of €1,348,517 earned. And there is a reason the 22 year old sits in front, he has been red hot all season long. McIlroy has placed outside the top 10 just two times in six European Tour tournaments and his average finish, which includes last weekend’s dismal 40th place result at the Masters, is an impressive 10.5.
Justin Rose (10/1): Rose has 33rd and 67th place finishes on his record this season, but he has been nails outside of those showings, placing seventh, ninth, first, and eighth in the other four European Tour events in which he participated. His consistent and quality play has him sitting just back of McIlroy with a total of €1,257,331. If you are looking for value, Rose is it at 10 to 1 odds.
Lee Westwood (7/2): Westwood, the 2010 Race to Dubai winner, presently sits fifth in earnings with a total of €928,787. The 38 year old Worksop, England native is one of the most consistent players on the European Tour, which makes him a good bet to be in this race all the way through November.
Dark Horse Candidate -
Luke Donald (9/1): It seems odd to call last year’s Race to Dubai and PGA Tour Money List winner a long shot, but Donald, who sits 23rd in the Race to Dubai standings, has earned just €271,669 to this point. Donald has not been as consistent this season as the trio listed above, finishing outside the top 30 in three of the six European Tour events he has played in.
