Odds to win the 2012 PGA Tour Money List

bubba watson masters green jacketThe golf season is starting to heat up, which means now is the perfect time to jump in on the PGA Tour Money List action. There are still a number of candidates with a realistic shot at securing the 2012 earnings title, and the odds on players like current leader Bubba Watson (8 to 1) may never be better than right now. The latest Golf Odds & Futures are favoring Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, both of whom are listed at 10 to 3, as the favorites to finish atop the PGA Tour Money List rankings.

The Favorites -

Rory McIlroy (10/3): McIlroy finished a dismal 40th at the Masters, but that served as his worst result of the season. The Northern Ireland native has been brilliant otherwise, placing in the top five in four of his six European Tour events while garnering a first place finish at the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic. He presently leads the Race to Dubai standings with €1,348,517 and he is fourth on the PGA Tour Money List ($2,424,000), despite having participated in only four PGA events.

Tiger Woods (10/3): Woods seems like an odd co-favorite given his performance over the last couple of years, but it would appear that the odds makers, much like the betting public, are anticipating that Tiger will return to his former ways any second. He has definitely shown signs of that this season, taking second at the Honda Classic and first at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but he is presently 10th on the PGA Tour Money List with $1,811,000 in earnings.

Phil Mickelson (6/1): Mickelson has some ugly finishes on his 2012 resume, but he also has been impressive in a number of tournaments, particularly of late. Lefty took fourth at the Shell Houston Open in late March and he followed that up with a third place finish at the Masters. Mickelson also won the AT&T Pro-Am before tying for second at the Northern Trust Open; both events took place in February. The three time Green Jacket winner is currently third on the PGA Tour Money List with a total of $2,515,480.

Hunter Mahan (7/1): Mahan does not carry as much clout as McIlroy, Woods, or Mickelson, but at 7 to 1 odds he presents a potentially lucrative investment. The Oklahoma State product, who currently sits fifth in the Official World Golf Rankings, is second on PGA Tour Money List this season with $3,094, 040 in earnings. Mahan has two wins on his record, the Shell Houston Open and the WGC: Accenture Match, and he also placed sixth at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January.

Bubba Watson (8/1): Watson, thanks to his unexpected victory at the Masters, presently sits atop the 2012 PGA Tour Money List with a total of $3,124,138 earned. That makes him a great play at 8 to 1 odds. It is not as though Watson was playing poorly going into the Masters either. The Florida native took fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and placed second at the World Golf Championships -Cadillac Championship in early March. Watson has not finished outside the top 18 in events played this season.
