Mother Nature wins round 1 of the 2008 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale: The 137th British Open began with a bang, a bang from Mother Nature. Thursday’s first round was a nightmare for some of the most prominent names in golf. On Friday’s round 2 of this 2008 Open Championship SportsBook.com has this intriguing match up: the betting odds favorite Sergio Garcia vs. fan favorite Adam Scott. The morning began with almost unplayable conditions, but the afternoon gave a chance for some unexpected names to rise to the top of the leader board. For the unfortunate players with round-1 morning tee times, their day didn’t exactly get off to an idea start. The conditions were brutal. With heavy downpour and howling winds, it seemed almost impossible for anyone to break par… and it was. At the end of the day, only 3 players were able to produce rounds of sub-par out of the entire field. These are the co-leaders after shooting a -1 (69): Rocco Mediate, Graeme McDowell and Robert Allenby. Hence, they all had afternoon tee times. On Friday’s round 2, the Sergio Garcia vs. Adam Scott match-up will not be occurring within the same pairing. Nevertheless, this doesn’t stop it from being an interesting and exciting head-to-head race. The Spaniard, who’s also the betting odds favorite to win the 2008 Open Championship, will tee off at 9:20 am along with Sean O’Hair, and Ryuji Imada. Sergio will hope the conditions change for the better, for the second round. Garcia will be looking to get some shots back, after shooting a +2 (72) in the first round, drawing him to an even tie for 15th place on the leader boards. His counterpart in this match up had a way more productive day 1 than the Spaniard. Adam Scott will tee off Friday at 8:09 am along with Zach Johnson and Pablo Larrazabal. Scott comes into his second round of play tied for 4th place with an even-par round of 70 in day 1. In round 2, Sergio Garcia is a -125 ML betting odds favorite to have a more productive day than Adam Scott (-105).
