The PGA Championship, the final major of the 2011 season, takes place, Thursday August 11th, at Atlanta Athletic Club. The Atlantic Athletic Club is known for long pars, a dense rough and scorching heat as the final score is looking to be a single digit below par. PGA oddsmakers have Rory McIlroy listed as 10/1 odds favourite to win the 2011 PGA Championship. Let’s take a look at the top players who have a shot this weekend. Be sure to get your 2011 PGA Championship predictions in early to beat the rush.
Rory McIlroy (10/1) dominated at the U.S. Open and knows he is destined for greatness. He’s playing in his 12th major this week, and he already has four other top-10s in addition to that eight-stroke win at Congressional. That includes a trio of thirds, and he has matched the major championship record of 62, as well.
Lee Westwood (14/1) is usually around at the end of a Major but has yet to finish with a win. He finished T-9 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last week. His best finish at the PGA Championship was in 2009 where he finished T-3 after he bailed out at last year’s final Major. Out of the last 11 Majors he’s finished in the Top 5, six times. The Englishman, ranked No. 2 in the world, thinks he has tried too hard to win his first major, so he’s using reverse psychology after going 0-54.
Luke Donald (14/1) has really taken a step forward in 2011. He's won three times around the world and risen to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking. Donald's fairways-and-greens game is well-suited to the major stage, and he ranks fourth on TOUR in Strokes Gained-Putting.
Adam Scott (20/1) has more major experience than just about anyone in his age bracket not named Woods, and he's only 31. But Scott has played in 42 majors and has just five top-10s, including the tie for second at the Masters earlier this year and a share of third at the 2006 PGA. The addition of Woods' former caddie Steve Williams to Scott's team has been a confidence builder, and he comes to Atlanta on a high note after a dominating win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
