2013 The Barclays Odds

tiger woods bunker shotThe FedEX Cup Playoffs, which features a series of four tournaments each with an $8,000,000 purse, get underway this week as the PGA Tour stops in Jersey City, New Jersey for The Barclays. The event is scheduled for a 7:10am ET start on Thursday, August 22nd at the Par 71, 7353 yards Liberty National Golf Club. 2013 The Barclays Odds at Sportsbook.ag have Tiger Woods listed as +500 moneyline favorite to win the tournament. Next on the golf odds leaderboard at the offshore bookmaker are Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, and Rory McIlroy with +1200 (risk $100 to win $1200), +1500, and +1500 lines, respectively. Henrik Stenson, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson, Jason Dufner, and Brandt Snedeker round out the top 10 tournament favorites. Stenson and Day are listed at +2000 odds while Johnson sports a +2200 line; Simpson, Dufner, and Snedeker are each drawing +2500 odds.

Tiger Woods went winless in majors, once again, but his season is far from over. Woods, who currently leads the PGA Tour in money earned, has an opportunity to win the FedEX Cup Playoffs as he enters this week’s tournament atop the FedEX Cup Standings with a total of 3,059 points. Matt Kuchar is next in line with 2,293 points, which gives Woods some breathing room, but not too much.

Should Woods perform poorly in one or two of the FedEX Cup Playoffs tournaments and another player, like Kuchar or Brandt Snedeker, excel, he could be vulnerable as the winner of The Barclays and the subsequent Deutsche Bank Championship and BMW Championship earns 2500 points.

Woods fell victim to the scoring system last year when he entered the playoff tournaments with a 159 point lead over second place Jason Dufner. He ended up third on the final leaderboard behind Rory McIlroy and Snedeker, who was not even in the top 10 in points heading into The Barclays.

Tiger finished one over par at last year’s event, which took place at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York, putting him in an eight way tie for 38th place.
