Vijay Singh Wins The Barclays vs Sergio Garcia: The playoff race for the 2008 FedEx Cup got under way last weekend from the Ridgewood C.C. in Paramus, New Jersey. The “Big Fijian”, Vijay Singh, was just able to hold off Sergio Garcia in a playoff, to win The Barclays for a record 4th time. But this was no ordinary ending to a final round, as an intruder sort of took the headlines from the players.

In the second playoff hole, Garcia hooked his drive into the left rough. Garcia had a very difficult second shot, which he drove into the right rough with his path to the green blocked by a tree.

On a moment straight out of the movie “Caddyshack”, the Spaniard received help from a very unlikely source. Garcia's ball ended up landing in what was believed to be a hole created by a gopher.

Thus, Garcia was allowed to take a drop, which permitted him a much better view at the green: “I got stymied behind the tree and I got lucky because I got a drop because of some gopher holes or whatever it was.”

But as Garcia entered the fairway rough, he happened to find more than just his golf ball: “It wasn’t where my ball was, but like about five or six feet left. It was actually moving. You could see the grass going up and down. It was actually there and we were trying to find it, but we couldn’t.”

Because if the help from his furry friend, Garcia was able to advance the ball close to the front of the green. Nevertheless, even with all that, Vijay was able to win on a birdie putt in that second playoff hole.
