There are still a number of candidates with a realistic shot at securing the 2012 earnings title, and the odds on players like current leader Bubba Watson (8 to 1) may never be better than right now. The latest Golf Odds & Futures are favoring Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, both of whom are listed at 10 to 3, as the favorites to finish atop the PGA Tour Money List rankings.

The Favorites -

Rory McIlroy (10/3): McIlroy finished a dismal 40th at the Masters, but that served as his worst result of the season. The Northern Ireland native has been brilliant otherwise, placing in the top five in four of his six European Tour events while garnering a first place finish at the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic. He presently leads the Race to Dubai standings with €1,348,517 and he is fourth on the PGA Tour Money List ($2,424,000), despite having participated in only four PGA events.

Tiger Woods (10/3): Woods seems like an odd co-favorite given his performance over the last couple of years, but it would appear that the odds makers, much like the betting public, are anticipating that Tiger will return to his former ways any second. He has definitely shown signs of that this season, taking second at the Honda Classic and first at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but he is presently 10th on the PGA Tour Money List with $1,811,000 in earnings.

Phil Mickelson (6/1): Mickelson has some ugly finishes on his 2012 resume, but he also has been impressive in a number of tournaments, particularly of late. Lefty took fourth at the Shell Houston Open in late March and he followed that up with a third place finish at the Masters. Mickelson also won the AT&T Pro-Am before tying for second at the Northern Trust Open; both events took place in February. The three time Green Jacket winner is currently third on the PGA Tour Money List with a total of $2,515,480.

Hunter Mahan (7/1): Mahan does not carry as much clout as McIlroy, Woods, or Mickelson, but at 7 to 1 odds he presents a potentially lucrative investment. The Oklahoma State product, who currently sits fifth in the Official World Golf Rankings, is second on PGA Tour Money List this season with $3,094, 040 in earnings. Mahan has two wins on his record, the Shell Houston Open and the WGC: Accenture Match, and he also placed sixth at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January.

Bubba Watson (8/1): Watson, thanks to his unexpected victory at the Masters, presently sits atop the 2012 PGA Tour Money List with a total of $3,124,138 earned. That makes him a great play at 8 to 1 odds. It is not as though Watson was playing poorly going into the Masters either. The Florida native took fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and placed second at the World Golf Championships -Cadillac Championship in early March. Watson has not finished outside the top 18 in events played this season.

Current Race to Dubai money leader, Rory McIlroy, is pegged at 7 to 1 odds to capture his first Open Championship while 2012 Green Jacket winner Bubba Watson is listed at 33 to 1 odds to top the British Open Leaderboard.

Tiger Woods has been in a golf funk for the better part of two years, but the 14 time major winner has demonstrated enough of his old form this season for the odds makers to make him the Open Championship favorite. Woods played miserably at the Masters, recording his worst ever finish at Augusta with a five over 293, however, he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational on March 25th and he placed second at the Honda Classic on March 4th.

Woods, who is presently third all-time in both PGA Tour (72) and European Tour victories (38), has produced an average finish of 12.6 in five events played (includes the European Tour Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship but doe not factor in his withdraw at the WGC-Cadillac Championships) this season.

Woods, a back-to-back Claret Jug winner in 2005 and 2006, has struggled at the Open Championship in recent years, missing the cut in 2009 before tying for 23rd in 2010. He did not participate in last year’s event due to a knee surgery.

Despite Woods partial turnaround, McIlroy, at 7 to 1 odds, seems like the better betting choice. The Northern Ireland native also turned in a lackluster outing at Augusta over the weekend, tying with Woods, Aaron Baddeley, and Henrik Stenson for 40th, but he has been white hot most of the season ranking first in European Tour earnings and fourth on the PGA Tour moneylist. McIlroy had finished outside the top 10 just one time all season (six events) heading into last weekend’s Masters Tournament.

Other notables on the odds list include Phil Mickelson, Tom Watson, Darren Clarke, Louis Oosthuizen, and Padraig Harrington. Mickelson, who is seeking his first Claret Jug, is listed at 18 to 1 odds while Clarke, last year’s winner, and Oosthuizen, the 2010 Open champion, are listed are 66 to 1 and 33 to 1 odds, respectively. Harrington, a two time Open winner, and Watson, a five time British Open champion, are presently drawing 33 to 1 and 300 to 1 odds.

The latest Golf Odds at Bovada.lv have McIlroy, the current Race to Dubai leader, listed as a heavy 8 to 11 favorite to secure the prestigious earnings title. Luke Donald, last year’s winner and the No. 1 ranked player according to the Official World Golf Rankings, is listed at 9 to 1 odds to successfully defend his crown.

The Favorites -

Rory McIlroy (8/11): The smart money is on McIlroy even though the return is not as great. The Northern Ireland Native presently leads the pack with a total of €1,348,517 earned. And there is a reason the 22 year old sits in front, he has been red hot all season long. McIlroy has placed outside the top 10 just two times in six European Tour tournaments and his average finish, which includes last weekend’s dismal 40th place result at the Masters, is an impressive 10.5.

Justin Rose (10/1): Rose has 33rd and 67th place finishes on his record this season, but he has been nails outside of those showings, placing seventh, ninth, first, and eighth in the other four European Tour events in which he participated. His consistent and quality play has him sitting just back of McIlroy with a total of €1,257,331. If you are looking for value, Rose is it at 10 to 1 odds.

Lee Westwood (7/2): Westwood, the 2010 Race to Dubai winner, presently sits fifth in earnings with a total of €928,787. The 38 year old Worksop, England native is one of the most consistent players on the European Tour, which makes him a good bet to be in this race all the way through November.

Dark Horse Candidate -

Luke Donald (9/1): It seems odd to call last year’s Race to Dubai and PGA Tour Money List winner a long shot, but Donald, who sits 23rd in the Race to Dubai standings, has earned just €271,669 to this point. Donald has not been as consistent this season as the trio listed above, finishing outside the top 30 in three of the six European Tour events he has played in.

The victory marked Watson’s first career major victory and his fourth PGA Tour win. 2012 Masters Results show Watson earning $1,440,000 for his efforts at Augusta National this weekend; he now ranks first on the 2012 PGA Tour money list with a total of $3,124,138 in winnings this season. Golf odds had Watson listed at +3150 prior to the start of the tournament, meaning the Florida native’s victory paid $3150 for every $100 wagered.

Odds to win the Masters 2012 were anything but in Bubba Watson’s favor when the Masters got underway last Thursday, but those numbers did little to derail the Georgia graduate. Watson kept a steady through four days of play, posting scores of 69, 71, 70, and 68 at the legendary par 72, 7,435 yards course.

Those results would not garner Watson his first Green Jacket, though, but instead a playoff with 2012 Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen. Watson, who hails from Bagdad, Florida, kept his cool as the action extended (even in the most dire of circumstances), parring holes 18 and 10 to eliminate Oosthuizen and record his fourth career PGA Tour win.

While Watson’s scorecard looked benign, he was required to pull a rabbit out of the proverbial hat on the last hole of the playoff. Watson drove his tee shot deep into the rough on the 10th hole, a development that seemingly would give Oosthuizen his second major championship. The 33 year old, who moved to No. 4 in the Official World Golf Rankings as a result of his Masters win, was undeterred by the harsh circumstances, hooking a masterful shot off the pine needles and on to the green.

Watson suggested the shot was indicative of his entire approach to the game of golf.

“I attack. I always attack,” Watson said. “I don’t like to go to the center of the greens. I want to hit the incredible shot. Who doesn’t? That’s why we play the game of golf, to pull off the amazing shot.”

In this case Watson’s amazing shot resulted in an incredible feat as he will forever be known as Masters champion.

The PGA Tour heads to Augusta, Georgia this week for the season’s first major, so its time to get your 2012 Masters Predictions now. The golfing world is abuzz with anticipation for this weekend’s event as the world’s best players, including Tigers Woods, Rory McIlory, and Phil Mickelson, descend on the beautiful Augusta National Golf Club. Early Golf Odds are favoring Woods, at +300 moneyline odds, to win the 15th major of his career.

It had been over 30 months since Tiger Woods won a PGA Tour event, but he finally snapped that extended streak two weekend’s ago with a victorious turn at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Florida. Woods major drought still lives on, though, with his last major title coming at the 2008 U.S. Open. That makes for big drama this week, especially with Tiger showing signs of returning to his former self.

If Woods is to add another major championship to his list, The Masters makes a great deal of sense given his past successes at the event. The Stanford product has won four Green Jackets and he has finished no worse than 22nd at Augusta since turning pro in 1997. In fact, Woods, even with his recent woes, has registered a top 10 finish at The Masters in each of the last six years.

Going into last year’s Masters Tiger had recorded 44th, 33rd, 10th, and 24th place finishes, but that did not keep him from logging another impressive Augusta showing. Woods shot a 10 under par 278 after posting a 66 in the second round and a 67 on Sunday.

Certainly calling a winner in any golfing a event is a difficult task, but Woods is as good a pick as any considering his Augusta record. It would go against much historical precedent for him not to be a factor in this week’s chase for the coveted Green Jacket.

The chase for the Green Jacket, which features an $8,000,000 purse, will be broadcast live on ESPN and CBS. The latest Golf Odds, shockingly, have Tiger Woods listed as a favorite to win the event at +275 moneyline odds. The red hot Rory McIlroy also finds himself a highly valued commodity; the Northern Ireland native is presently listed at +375 odds to win the second major championship of his young career. Last year’s Green Jacket winner, South African Charl Schwartzel, is drawing +2500 moneyline odds to defend his championship.

Two weekends ago Tiger Woods lifted a huge weight from his own shoulders as he registered his first PGA Tour win in over 30 months. Woods topped the field at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida with a 13 under par 275.

The victory, which ran Woods PGA Tour win total to 72, featured 20 birdies, 46 pars, and a particularly impressive second round score of 65. It also served notice that the Achilles issue which ended Woods run at the World Golf Championships on March 11th was not as serious as initially feared.

Given the impressive showing at Bay Hill, Woods figures to be a factor at Augusta this week. Tiger, even with his recent struggles, has finished no worse than sixth at the Masters since 2004.

Rory McIlroy, conversely, has never finished better than 15th in three Masters entries. That placement came last year when the 22 year old shot a four under par 284. McIlroy played brilliantly through two rounds of action, which resulted in his leading the field heading into Saturday, but he faltered on the event’s final day, posting an eight over par 80.

Using McIlroy’s lack of success at Augusta as a barometer for how he will perform this weekend would be a mistake, though. The Holywood native, who currently sits atop the Official World Golf Rankings, has two wins this season and he has finished no worse than 11th in seven events played.

Other favorites this weekend include big names in Phil Mickelson (+900), Luke Donald (+1150), Lee Westwood (+1450), and Adam Scott. Mickelson, a four time major winner and owner of two Green Jackets, is the only one of that group to have won a major golf championship.

For one weekend, Woods looked to be in old form as he breezed his way to a five-stroke win in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando on Sunday (March 25). The win was his first championship since hitting the wall following a 2009 sex scandal that tarnished his career. Tiger’s resurgence couldn’t have come at a better time either, with the Masters looming two weeks from now. Following his championship performance at Bay Hill, Woods winning odds for the Masters soared to the top of PGA betting boards off shore and in Las Vegas, coming off at 7-to-2.

Woods has played 27 tour events since last hoisting a trophy and he admitted, “it feels pretty good.” Woods five-stroke victory at Bay Hill is by the most strokes since Rory McIlroy won the U.S. Open by eight. The Bay Hill victory also returned Woods to sixth in the world. For the tournament, Woods finished at 13-under 275 for his 72nd PGA Tour championship, falling short of Jack Nicklaus by one for most tour wins.

Woods victory is great news for fans who are yearning to see former World No. 1 Rory McIlroy and Woods battle in Augusta. McIlroy has his young career off to a roaring start after winning the U.S. Open by eight strokes in 2011. Odds makers at list McIlroy No. 2 on the Masters board coming off at 9-to-2. The Lefty, Phil Mickelson’s Masters’ odds are third best at 10-to-1 with Lee Westwood and Luke Donald rounding out the top five at 14-to-1.

Betting odds on Woods winning any major in 2012 are good at 5-to-4.

The event, which is scheduled to get underway tomorrow morning, will be hosted at the TPC Blue Monster Golf Course at Doral. 2012 WGC-Cadillac Championship Odds have new No. 1 Rory McIlroy listed as a +450 moneyline favorite to win the tournament. Tiger Woods, who now sits 16th in the Official World Golf Rankings, is a close second on the odds leaderboard at +500 moneyline odds.

Rory McIlroy moved from second to first in the Official World Golf Rankings last weekend with his winning turn at the Honda Classic. The Irishman, the favorite to win the event at +700 odds, passed long standing No. 1 Luke Donald after posting a 12 under par score of 268 at the PGA National Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

McIlroy, who scored under par in each of the four rounds, held off a furious fourth round rally from Tiger Woods. Woods, who opened the tournament with a one over par 71, shot a blistering 62 on Sunday. The 14 time major winner recorded eagles on holes three and 18 and he birdied holes five, seven, eleven, and seventeen to close out play with a 10 under par 270.

Woods, who finished 10th at last year’s WGC-Cadillac Championship (eight under par 280), appears to be regaining the form that made him the world’s top golfer for so many years. The Stanford product placed first at the Chevron World Challenge last December and he has followed that performance with third, 15th, 17th, and second place finishes.

Despite Woods return from the ash heap, besting McIlroy this weekend remains a huge task. The 22 year old has been in impeccable form all season long, recording two second place finishes and a fifth place result to go along with last Sunday’s Honda Classic victory.

Phil Mickelson, who tied for 55th at last year’s WGC-Cadillac Championship with a four over par 292, is listed behind McIlroy and Woods as the third favorite to take home the first place share of this weekend’s $8,500,000 purse. Last year’s champion, 30 year old California native Nick Watney, is listed at +2500 odds to defend his title.

The event, which is being held at the Par 70 7,110 yards PGA National Champion Course, is scheduled to get underway at 7:00am ET tomorrow morning; it will be broadcast on NBC and The Golf Channel. 2012 Honda Classic Odds have Irishman Rory McIlroy, who is currently No. 2 in the Official World Golf Rankings, listed as a +700 moneyline favorite to win this weekend’s tournament.

A total of $5,700,000 is on the line this weekend, but the lion’s share of that money (over $1,000,000) will go to the victor. Most are expecting that person to be either Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, or Tiger Woods.

McIlroy has set a blistering early pace this season, recording four top five finishes, including a second place turn at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and a win at the UBS Hong Kong Open, in five European Tour events. Most recently the 22 year old took second place to Hunter Mahan in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship last weekend at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Dove Mountain – Marana, Arizona.

Westwood, who lost to McIlroy in the semi-finals at the WGC over the weekend, has also played well on the European Tour, placing inside the top 20 in five of the six events he has entered this season. Prior to last weekend’s action Westwood took second place at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in early February with a 17 under par score of 271. Westwood is presently No. 3 in the OWGR behind Luke Donald and McIlroy and he trails only McIlroy in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai Rankings.

Woods, obviously, has not enjoyed the recent success of McIlory or Westwood, but he is at least starting to resemble the golfer who repeatedly garnered favored status. Tiger, who has not won a PGA event since capturing the BMW Championship in September of 2009, defeated Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano in the first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship last Wednesday, but he fell to Nick Watney in Thursday’s second round.

Woods placed 15th at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am (eight under par 278) before taking part in the WGC; he took third at the European Tour’s Abu Dhani HSBC Golf Championship in late January with an 11 under par 278.

Tomorrow will, shockingly, represent Woods first professional entry in the The Honda Classic.

Other top contenders this weekend include major winners Charl Schwartzel, Greame McDowell, Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk, YE Yang, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, and Louis Oosthuizen. Last year’s Honda Classic winner, Rory Sabbatini, who hauled $1,026,000 in winnings, is listed at +5950 moneyline odds to defend his title.

The PGA Championship, the final major of the 2011 season, takes place, Thursday August 11th, at Atlanta Athletic Club. The Atlantic Athletic Club is known for long pars, a dense rough and scorching heat as the final score is looking to be a single digit below par. PGA oddsmakers have Rory McIlroy listed as 10/1 odds favourite to win the 2011 PGA Championship. Let’s take a look at the top players who have a shot this weekend. Be sure to get your 2011 PGA Championship predictions in early to beat the rush.

Rory McIlroy (10/1) dominated at the U.S. Open and knows he is destined for greatness. He’s playing in his 12th major this week, and he already has four other top-10s in addition to that eight-stroke win at Congressional. That includes a trio of thirds, and he has matched the major championship record of 62, as well.

Lee Westwood (14/1) is usually around at the end of a Major but has yet to finish with a win. He finished T-9 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last week. His best finish at the PGA Championship was in 2009 where he finished T-3 after he bailed out at last year’s final Major. Out of the last 11 Majors he’s finished in the Top 5, six times. The Englishman, ranked No. 2 in the world, thinks he has tried too hard to win his first major, so he’s using reverse psychology after going 0-54.

Luke Donald (14/1) has really taken a step forward in 2011. He's won three times around the world and risen to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking. Donald's fairways-and-greens game is well-suited to the major stage, and he ranks fourth on TOUR in Strokes Gained-Putting.

Adam Scott (20/1) has more major experience than just about anyone in his age bracket not named Woods, and he's only 31. But Scott has played in 42 majors and has just five top-10s, including the tie for second at the Masters earlier this year and a share of third at the 2006 PGA. The addition of Woods' former caddie Steve Williams to Scott's team has been a confidence builder, and he comes to Atlanta on a high note after a dominating win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

2011 PGA Championship Odds:
Rory McIlroy 10/1
Lee Westwood 14/1
Luke Donald 14/1
Adam Scott 20/1
Phil Mickelson 20/1
Tiger Woods 20/1
Dustin Johnson 25/1
Jason Day 25/1
Rickie Fowler 25/1
Steve Stricker 25/1
Martin Kaymer 28/1
Nick Watney 28/1
Matt Kuchar 33/1
Charl Schwartzel 40/1
Sergio Garcia 40/1
Zach Johnson 40/1
Bubba Watson 50/1
David Toms 50/1
Hunter Mahan 50/1
Anthony Kim 66/1
K.J. Choi 66/1
Bo Van Pelt 80/1
Brandt Snedeker 80/1
Fredrik Jacobson 80/1
Gary Woodland 80/1
Geoff Ogilvy 80/1
Graeme McDowell 80/1
Jim Furyk 80/1
Justin Rose 80/1
Lucas Glover 80/1
Martin Laird 80/1
Padraig Harrington 80/1
Retief Goosen 80/1
Robert Karlsson 80/1
Ryan Moore 80/1
Ryo Ishikawa 80/1
Webb Simpson 80/1
Y-E Yang 80/1
Aaron Baddeley 100/1

Point-Spreads recommends you check the Golf Odds for a full list of player odds before the 2011 PGA Championship tees-off.

The Bottom Line: There has been first time winners in the last seven Majors, and I like Ricky Fowler. Be sure to get your 2011 PGA Championship predictions in early to beat the rush.
