2013 NBA Finals Odds

heat james trophyWhile the NBA Playoffs field has yet to be finalized, the postseason officially gets underway on Saturday, April 20th. As such, the odds makers have narrowed their list of championship candidates to the 17 teams that actually have a shot at winning the 2013 NBA Finals. The latest NBA Odds release from offshore bookmaker Sportsbook.ag has the defending champion Miami Heat listed as a -200 moneyline favorite ($200 wins $100) to retain their title. Last year’s runner-up, the Oklahoma City Thunder, are a second pick at +500 odds while the San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, and Denver Nuggets round out the top five at +1200, +1500, and +2500 odds respectively.

Miami Heat (-200): The Heat have already wrapped up home court advantage throughout the postseason, which means defeating them in a seven game series is going to be a monumental task. Miami is 36-4 at the AmericanAirlines Arena this season and it heads into the playoffs having won 36 of its last 38 games (excludes tonight’s home/regular season finale against the Magic).

Oklahoma City Thunder (+500): The Heat have been a horrible match-up for the Thunder, but Oklahoma City certainly has enough talent to reach the Finals again and, perhaps, defeat Miami (assuming) in a seven game series. Probably worth a flyer at +500 odds given the Thunder’s play both at home (34-6) and on the road (26-15).

San Antonio Spurs (+1200): The Spurs have struggled down the stretch, going 3-6 in their last nine games; however, when Tony Parker is healthy, San Antonio represents a  threat to the Thunder and even the Heat.

New York Knicks (+1500): The Knicks lost a stunner at Charlotte on Monday night, falling 106-95 to the lowly Bobcats, but they have won 15 of their last 17 games. New York, now 53-28 overall, also scored a huge 102-90 win at Miami on April 2nd, signaling it could be a problem for Miami in a seven game series.
