Odds makers are expecting another tightly contested battle tonight when the Grizzlies and Clippers square in Game 4 of their best of seven opening round series. The latest NBA Odds have Los Angeles listed as a slight -1.5 against the spread favorite and the Over/Under set at 182.5 points. Tip off in this evening’s pivotal skirmish is scheduled for 10:30pm ET at the STAPLES Center; the game will be broadcast live on TNT.
Los Angeles took a 2-1 series lead on Saturday night, scoring another one point victory over the always game Grizzlies. The Clippers trailed 64-71 going into the final frame after Memphis pummeled them 25-14 in the third quarter, but they returned the favor late, closing the game out on a 23-15 run to win 87-86.
For the game Los Angeles downed 33-of-71 from the field and 8-of-17 from beyond the arc, which helped the team overcome a truly pathetic night from the charity stripe. The Clippers, who shot just 68 percent from the free throw line during the regular season, missed 17 of their 30 game three foul shots.
Chris Paul led the team with 24 points; he also dished out 11 assists and recorded four steals. Blake Griffin added 17 points and Paul’s back court mate, Randy Foye, turned in a 16 point effort on 6-of-9 shooting.
Memphis, which is shooting 44 percent from the floor for the series, had another off offensive night, connecting on just 26 of its 65 field goal attempts. Four Grizzlies scored in double figures, including Rudy Gay (24) and Zach Randolph (17), but the Memphis bench accounted for a mere 21 points. O.J. Mayo, in particular, struggled shooting the ball, going 1-for-8 from the field in 29 minutes of the bench for six points.
Saturday’s game marked the Clippers sixth victory in their last eight meetings with the Grizzlies. Memphis is 1-6 in its last seven games opposite the Clippers at the STAPLES Center (average margin of loss 7.3 ppg), a trend that does not bode well for their chances this evening. Los Angeles has not exactly been a dynamo in tonight’s situation, though, posting a 2-7-1 against the spread record (5-5 straight up) in its last 10 games as a home favorite with a spread between 0 and 3.5 points and total between 180 and 185 points.
