The 2016 NBA Finals features the same two squads as the 2015 championship series; however, the Cavaliers should be a different team with both Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving fully healthy this time around. Still, the NBA odds makers at Bovada.lv see things going the same way for Cleveland. Game 1 picks from the offshore bookmaker have the Warriors favored at -6 and the Over/Under set at 210 points. Golden State is also listed as a -200 favorite to win the series.
LeBron James played out of his mind in last year’s NBA Finals, averaging 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game, but his efforts were not enough. Golden State won the series 4-2 to earn the franchise’s first championship since 1975.
Will things be different this year with Irving and Love at full strength? Most don’t think so. Although the Warriors did look a little suspect in the Western Conference Finals, falling in a 1-3 series hole while suffering two ugly, double digit loss to the Thunder.
They eventually showed their championship resolve, though, fighting back to win the best of seven series as Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry took turns playing savior.
Nonetheless, should the Cavaliers, who posted a 12-2 playoff record in reaching this year’s Finals, find a way to steal a game in Oakland, things could get interesting. The NBA rumor mill suggesting Cleveland players were privately pining for a rematch with Golden State, anxious to prove what they could do at full capacity.
That did not turn out very well for the Cavs in the regular season, however; the Warriors defeated Cleveland 89-83 at the Oracle Arena and 132-98 at the Quicken Loans Arena.
Game 1 of the 2016 NBA Finals is scheduled to tip off at 9:00pm ET on Thursday, June 2. The game will be broadcast live on ABC.
NBA Finals Betting Trend: The Warriors are 4-0 both straight up and against the spread since January 0f 2015 when playing as a home favorite of -6 or more and coming off a home win.
