Last year the Cavaliers bolted out to a 2-1 series lead over the Warriors in the NBA Finals. This year they find themselves in an 0-2 hole as they head to the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland for Game 3. Can the Cavs flip the script on the defending champs in this year’s series? Given the lopsided results of the first two meetings, very few are expecting that to happen, including the NBA odds makers at Bovada.lv.
The latest 2016 NBA Finals Predictions from the offshore bookmaker have Golden State lined as a -1.5 Game 3 road favorite; the Over/Under in tonight’s contest is set at 206 points.
There is no other way to slice it, Games 1 and 2 were brutal for Cleveland. The Cavs lost by a combined 48 points while shooting 36.8 percent from the field. Game 2 was especially disheartening as Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving combined for just 15 points on 7-of-21 shooting and LeBron James, who finished the contest with 19 points, accounted for seven of the team’s 17 turnovers.
To make matters worse for Cleveland, neither Stephen Curry or Klay Thompson has had a breakout game yet. The Splash Brothers combined for a season low 20 points in Game 1 and they dropped in 35 points as a duo in the Warriors 110-77 victory on Sunday.
In spite of all that, the Cavaliers should show a little more moxie tomorrow night. Playing in front of the home crowd will certainly help, but more than that, an 0-3 hole will doom for their championship prospects. That alone almost always inspires a better performance from battle tested, veteran clubs. Expect one from the Cleveland on Wednesday (8:00pm ET, ABC).
