2015 NBA Finals Odds

heat james scowlingThe San Antonio Spurs won their fifth championship last night, crushing an over-matched Miami Heat squad 104-87 to take the NBA Finals 4-1. San Antonio, which opened as a -115 NBA odds favorite to win the championship, out-scored the defending champs by an average of 14 points per game for the series. In spite of their brilliant playoffs and destruction of the Heat in the Finals, the Spurs are not the favorite to win the Larry O’Brien Trophy next year. Opening 2015 NBA Finals Odds from Bovada.lv are favoring Miami to win its fourth title at 7 to 2 odds ($100 wins $350). The Spurs and Thunder are second picks at 6 to 1 odds while the Clippers round out the top four favorites with a 9 to 1 listing. The Indiana Pacers, who have lost to the Heat in the last two Eastern Conference Finals, are, along with the Chicago Bulls, getting 12 to 1 odds to win next year’s championship.

While Miami may be favored now, its top dog status could change drastically over the next few weeks. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all have the ability to opt out of their current contracts and become free agents. Most believe the trio will re-up with the Heat, but even if they do, another championship run is far from a certainty.

It was obvious James had too much on his shoulders in the Finals as Wade struggled to compliment ‘The King’ in the same fashion he used to.

And then there is San Antonio. While Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are all long in the tooth — at least in basketball terms — they are still highly effective players. And the Spurs, as they just demonstrated, are more than a trio. With the deepest bench in the league and an emerging star in Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio has more than enough talent to take pressure off its big three. If Tim Duncan decides to return for another season, the Spurs are as good a pick as any to win next year’s title.
