The New England Patriots have been sitting and waiting for their first opponent in the playoffs after receiving a first round bye. They take on the Indianapolis Colts in their quest for another Super Bowl on Saturday night. The Patriots host the Colts, who are facing a squad that went 8-0 at Foxborough. QB Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick are masters at their craft and they’ll be ready for their first test in these 2014 playoffs. Because of their previous success, talented quarterback and coach, NFL oddsmakers have the Patriots listed at 8/1 odds to win their fourth Super Bowl. Below is my Patriots Super Bowl preview for you to ponder along with NFL Playoff Spreads.
The Patriots are the better team and favored by a touchdown over Indianapolis. The Colts defense was dreadful against Kansas City, so it’s hard to imagine quarterback Tom Brady and company not putting up a ton of points. Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton dominated against Kansas City, but it would be foolish to expect a repeat performance.
First on Brady’s priority list instead is Colts linebacker Robert Mathis, who finished the regular season with 19.5 sacks and had another sack-forced fumble against the Chiefs in the Wild Card Round. Brady is quite familiar with Mathis, being sacked by the Colt five times in his career. The Pats have to be able to figure out how to slow him down and then we’ve got to be really balanced on offense like they’ve been. They’ve got to run it, and when they throw, we’ve got to throw it good.
With offense being the big story in this game, it will be the Colts defense that comes up biggest. With Luck facing a Patriots defense that ranks last out of the AFC playoff teams in total defense in terms of yards allowed, the Pats must be at their best. A player to watch out for is Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount, who rushed for 189 yards in the season finale against Buffalo.
If the Patriots emerge victorious, they’ll likely be pulling very hard for the San Diego Chargers on Sunday afternoon. If the Chargers beat Denver, the Patriots would host San Diego in the AFC Championship Game. Otherwise, the Pats would have to travel to the Mile High City for a date with Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
The Bottom Line: Bill Belichick is a master at what he does and you can bet the farm he has drawn up a master plan. Oh did I mention they are playing at home. We recommend you signup with Sportsbettingonline to receive a 10% signup bonus heading into the 2014 NFL Playoffs.
