Super Bowl Point Spreads 2016

super bowl point spreadsWill Sunday be Peyton Manning’s last rodeo? No one really knows but Manning; however, if it is, the odds makers expect it to be a losing one. The 17-1 Panthers opened as a -4.5 point favorite to win the Lombardi Trophy, but, according to the latest Super Bowl Point Spreads 2016 from Bovada, they are now giving six points to the Broncos. The total for Sunday’s championship clash remains at 45.5 points.

Unfortunately for Manning and his offensive cohorts, they are the reason for the rather large Super Bowl spread. Denver ranked 16th in the NFL this season with a 355.5 yards per game average while placing 19th in points per game with a 22.2 average. As for Manning, he suffered through the worst season of his illustrious career, throwing for 2249 yards, nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions en route to a career low 67.9 passer rating.

Denver’s offense will be facing a Carolina defense that held opponents to 19.2 points and 322.9 yards per game during the regular season. The Panthers also made the league’s top ranked offense, Arizona, look downright foolish in the NFC Championship Game, limiting the Cardinals to 287 total yards while forcing seven turnovers.

If there is hope for the Broncos to upset the proverbial apple cart on Sunday, it rests with their defense. Denver featured a suffocating stop unit this season, ranking first in yards per game allowed (283.1) and fourth in points per game allowed (18.5).

And, of course, the Broncos defense carried the team through its two playoff wins, holding two of the league’s best offenses in Pittsburgh and New England to 34 points and an abysmal 14.8 third down conversion percentage. Denver also generated seven sacks in its wins over the Steelers and Patriots.

Duplicating those number against the Panthers will be a tall order, though. Carolina has scored 31 or more points in eight of its last nine games and Cam Newton complied a 114.4 passer rating while completing 23 touchdown passes in those same nine outings.

Super Bowl 50 is scheduled to kick off at 6:30pm ET on Sunday, February 7 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Coverage of the game will be provided by CBS.
