The Jets-Patriots rivalry has been one of the best in the league since Rex Ryan’s arrival in New York, but the results have been decidedly in New England’s favor. Despite the Aaron Hernandez situation, that trend figures to continue for at least a few more years. The odds makers at Sportsbook.ag are certainly expecting the Patriots domination to continue when the two AFC East rivals battle on Thursday, September 12th in Foxborough. The offshore book’s Jets vs Patriots Line 2013 NFL Week 2 has New England listed as a -10 against the spread home favorite.
Rex Ryan has never shied away from expressing his thoughts, and one of the first things he did as head coach of the Jets was poke the bear that is New England. Ryan, in a mostly respectful manner, let it be known that his team would not be intimidated by Tom Brady or the ‘Genius’.
New York made Ryan look like a smart man early in his tenure, taking three out of five from the Patriots, including a playoff meeting at Gillette Stadium in January of 2011. His words have carried little weight the past two seasons, though, with New England dominating its division brethren.
The Patriots are 4-0 in their last four meetings with the Jets, beating them by an average of 15.8 points per game. However, the last two games in Foxborough were tightly contested. New England scored a 30-21 victory at Gillette in October of 2011 and it earned a 29-26 overtime home win over the Jets last season. The blowouts occurred at MetLife Stadium where New England embarrassed Ryan and his troops 37-16 and 49-19.
It could be argued that both of these teams are descending, but the Patriots are descending from a much greater height. New England is secure with Brady under center and has not won fewer than 10 games since 2002 while the Jets have piled up 14 wins over the last two seasons.
