2012 NFL Odds Preseason Week 2

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

titans matt hasselbeckThe NFL preseason continues to cruise along as exhibition action gets underway again tomorrow night with a Bengals vs Falcons showdown in Atlanta as well as a Lambeau meeting between the Browns and Packers. The schedule picks up considerably on Friday, though, with 12 teams slated to take the field. Among the more interesting Friday pairings are match-ups between the Titans and Buccaneers and Raiders and Cardinals. NFL Odds have the home team favored in each case as the Bucs are listed as a -2.5 against the spread favorite while Arizona’s line is presently set at -4.

Tennessee Titans vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5): Tennessee is one of the few teams in the league that has yet to name its starting quarterback, but that may change this Friday. The battle between veteran Matt Hasselbeck and second year pro Jake Locker remains a close one, but Locker certainly aided his cause last Saturday in Seattle. The Washington product completed 7-of-13 passes for 80 yards and he led Tennessee on an 11 play, 79 yard scoring drive late in the second quarter. As for Hasselbeck, he did not fare as well, connecting on five of his nine pass attempts for 45 yards and two interceptions. Should the discrepancy between their play be as wide on Friday, Locker will probably lock up the job.

Oakland Raiders vs Arizona Cardinals (-4): Arizona has a quarterback issue as well, but it is much darker than the one in Tennessee. While Titans Head Coach Mike Munchak appears to have a solid option in either Locker or Haseelbeck, it looks as though Cardinals front man Ken Whisenhunt will be choosing between bad and worse. Kevin Kolb, who was named the starter prior to the preseason, has been horrible in two exhibition outings, completing 2-of-9 passes for 25 yards and one interception. John Skelton has performed better, but his numbers are hardly impressive (7-of-12  for 67 yards and one interception). Arizona stirred optimism with its strong finish last season (won seven of its last nine games), but the preseason play of Kolb and Skelton has effectively taken a wrecking ball to any good feelings conjured by 2011′s late run.
