Rookies Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck wowed in their NFL preseason debuts, which means they have created expectations for their week two outings. Both players will take to the road for the first time as Griffin’s Redskins travel to Chicago to face the Bears while Luck and the Colts are set for a Sunday night showdown with the Steelers in Pittsburgh. 2012 NFL Picks Preseason Week 2 have the Redskins/Bears game lined as a Pick’em with a game total of 37 points. The latest NFL Odds are favoring the Steelers by 3.5 points over Indianapolis; the Over/Under in Sunday’s clash between the two AFC rivals is set at 38 points.
Washington Redskins vs Chicago Bears (PK): Robert Griffin III looked like Washington’s long awaited quarterback savior in the team’s preseason opener against Buffalo. Yes, it was a small sample, but the Heisman Trophy winner displayed the type of poise and accuracy that vaulted him up the draft board back in April. Griffin led the Redskins on their only scoring drive, completing 4-of-6 passes for 70 yards and one touchdown, which proved enough to win the game. Like Luck, Griffin will get his first NFL road test this weekend as he and his Washington mates try to take out a Bears team that got shellacked 31-3 by the Broncos last Thursday night at Soldier Field.
Indianapolis Colts vs Pittsburgh Steelers (-3.5): Andrew Luck could not have asked for a better start to his NFL career as he carved up a weak Rams team en route to a 38-3 week 1 win. Luck, whose first NFL pass went for a 63 yard touchdown (thanks mostly to the legs of Donald Brown), completed 10-of-16 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns in the blowout victory. He may find the going a little tougher this Sunday, though. Granted, the Steelers are not likely to throw everything in their arsenal at the rookie, but their defense is based on stopping the run and giving the quarterback grief. Luck will also have to deal with a raucous Pittsburgh crowd (if their is such a thing in preseason), that is, no doubt, anxious to see him get some dirt on his jersey.
