2012 NFL Preseason Week 2 Monday Night Football Odds

patriots tom bradyTwo of the league’s more high profile teams, Philadelphia and New England, will square off this evening in a Monday Night Football skirmish at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Tonight’s NFL Preseason Week 2 finale is scheduled to get underway at 8:00pm ET on ESPN. The latest NFL Odds have the hosting Patriots listed as a -1 against the spread home favorite; the game total is set at 40.5 points.

Some would consider tonight’s match up a potential Super Bowl preview, but it is probably safe to assume this evening’s play will not be super. Neither the Eagles nor the Patriots were overly impressive in their first preseason outings, despite both squads garnering one point victories.

New England went into the break down 3-0 to the Saints in its exhibition opener after Tom Brady completed just 4-of-7 passes for 30 yards. A three yard touchdown pass from Brian Hoyer to Britt Davis in the third quarter proved to be enough to get a 7-6 victory, though, thanks in large part to New England’s defense. The Pats held New Orleans offense, albeit mostly the second and third string versions of it, to 15 first downs and 280 total yards.

Philadelphia had a similar showing in its week one preseason outing as it got blanked 13-0 by the Steelers in the first half. However, the Eagles offense did come on strong in the second half with rookie quarterback Nick Foles throwing for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Foles impressive NFL debut helped Philly secure a 24-23 win over Pittsburgh.

The poor showing from the Eagles offensive starters has Michael Vick hoping for a bit more against the Patriots this evening. Vick (3-of-4 for six yards last week) and the rest of the first team offense will play the entire first half against New England, which should allow them an opportunity to establish the kind of rhythm they were unable to against the Steelers.

New England is also scheduled to play its starters for the first two quarters, making tonight’s game a bit more interesting, potentially anyway, than typical preseason fare. The Patriots banged up offensive line bares watching as the Eagles usually feature an aggressive pass rush.
