The Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to contend for the AFC Championship next year, drawing +7500 each to earn a spot in Super Bowl 50. Obviously, that statement was made in jest as the two AFC South rivals are considered the least likely teams to win the conference according to Bovada.lv’s latest 2016 AFC Championship Odds. Another team from the South is the favorite to book a trip to Levi’s Stadium next February, though.
The Colts, who reached the last season’s AFC Championship Game as a four-seed, are getting +300 odds to make it to the Super Bowl. They are followed closely by defending AFC Champion New England, which defeated Indy 45-7 in last year’s conference decider, at +400 odds.
Peyton Manning and the Broncos are third on the offshore bookmaker’s list at +600 odds while the Steelers and Ravens round out the top five at +900 and +1100 odds, respectively.
The Dolphins, Chiefs, Bills, Bengals and Chargers are considered something approaching viable conference contenders as well. Miami is getting +1400 odds to win the AFC, Kansas City is coming in at +1600 and the other three squads listed are all lined at +1800 odds.
The Houston Texans and New York Jets are in sort of a ‘no man’s land’ with prices of +2200 and +3300. But that is far better than the area the remaining four AFC teams occupy. As previously mentioned, Tennessee and Jacksonville are last on the list at +7500 odds, and, unfortunately for Oakland and Cleveland, two perennial cellar dwellers, they are not far behind at +5000 odds apiece.
Factoring in strength of schedule, the Colts are a more than solid choice. Andrew Luck and company face the second easiest slate this season based upon last year’s opponent win percentage (106-149-1, .417%).
That would, theoretically, put Indianapolis in a great position to secure the top seed in the AFC Playoffs. And the AFC’s No. 1 seed has reached the Super Bowl four times in the last six years.
