Tonight’s the night…yes, mercifully, exhibition football comes to an end , which means meaningful games are just around the corner. The league will inundate its ample fan base with one more heavy dose of preseason fare, though, as 26 teams are in action this evening. Tonight is mostly about roster trimming with all 32 teams required to be at the 53 man limit by tomorrow but before they have a chance to get cut, I will break down the 2012 NFL Spreads Preseason Week 4. The final week of the preseason is the most difficult to predict and the most painful to watch. But there are a few interesting games, some of which were covered earlier this week, including the Chiefs/Packers, Jets/Eagles, and Chargers/49ers. NFL Odds have the home team favored in each of those contests with the exception of the Kansas City vs Green Bay skirmish (Chiefs -1).
San Diego Chargers vs San Francisco 49ers (-3): San Diego has long been considered an AFC Championship contender, but back-to-back mediocre finishes have soiled the team’s reputation a bit. While some are still high on the Chargers, the majority of folks seem uncertain as to how the team will perform this season. If the preseason is any indication, the Bolts should be fine as they enter tonight’s game with a 3-0 record, having earned wins over Green Bay, Dallas, and Minnesota. It is not advisable to put much stock in exhibition results, though, which an examination of the Chargers first half results indicates. San Diego played to a 20-20 first half tie in its first three preseason games while Philip Rivers, who did not play in last week’s win over the Vikings, completed 16-of-20 passes for 146 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. As for the 49ers ( a -250 NFL Picks favorite to win the NFC West), they will look to regroup after last week’s defensive undressing against the Broncos. Peyton Manning was near perfect in the first half opposite the Niners ballyhooed defense, throwing for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
