NFL Week 1 Picks

NFL 3DThe 2015 NFL season kicks off in less than a week and the circumstances in the league opener have changed dramatically over the last few days. A federal judge overturned Tom Brady’s four-game suspension this week, opening the door for the reigning Super Bowl MVP to step under center on Thursday night in Foxboro. Opening NFL Week 1 Picks from Bovada.lv had New England lined as a -3 home favorite prior to that development, but now the Pats are laying seven to the visiting Steelers.

Thursday’s spread between the Steelers and Patriots matches the largest Week 1 line (Green Bay -7 at Chicago) while Pittsburgh is one of five winning teams from a season ago getting points.

The Chiefs, Bills, Lions and Ravens — all of which won at least nine games last year — are listed as underdogs; however, Buffalo is the only one of those four teams playing at home. Rex Ryan’s crew will host Andrew Luck and the Colts, one of the favorites to win Super Bowl 50 at +850 odds, and they are drawing a +3 line.

It would appear to be a good spot for the Bills, though. Indianapolis produced a 1-3 road record against winning teams last season and it yielded a ridiculous 38 points per game in doing so. Buffalo also rediscovered some home mojo from the midway point last year, going 4-1 in its last five home games with wins over the Dolphins, Jets, Browns and Packers. The Bills allowed a total of 42 points in those four wins.

Kansas City, meanwhile, is drawing a +1 spread at Houston while Detroit and Baltimore are +2.5 and +5 road dogs at San Diego and Denver, respectively.

This year’s Sunday Night Football opener features a rivalry tilt between the Giants and Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. The Pokes are a -5.5 home favorite in spite of having four of their last six home games against New York. The Over was a perfect 6-0 those same six games with an average score of 63.8 points. Sunday night’s game total is presently set at 51.5.

Week 1 concludes on September 14 with two Monday Night Football games. Philadelphia is in Atlanta to face the Falcons and Minnesota, a team many expect to contend for a playoff spot this year, squares off against San Francisco at Levi’s Stadium, the site of Super Bowl 50. The visitor is favored in both contests with the Eagles laying three points and the Vikings laying 2.5.
