NFL Picks Week 1 turns its attention to Sunday Night Football and what should be a tremendous game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos. The two squads, which squared off in last year’s playoffs, are scheduled to kick things off at 8:20pm ET on NBC. NFL Odds have the hosting Broncos listed as a -2 against the spread favorite while the Steelers are drawing +110 odds to avenge January’s 29-23 overtime Wildcard loss at Mile High. Sunday’s game total is presently set at 44.5 points.
Week 1 NFL Picks are riding the Broncos in this contest and one can only assume the odds makers are doing so because of Peyton Manning’s presence under center. Yes, Denver proved capable of beating Pittsburgh without the services of Manning in last year’s Wildcard match-up, but most who watched that contest are still trying to figure exactly how the Steelers yielded 447 yards to a Tim Tebow led offense.
Get the latest NFL Picks by Tyler Morgan this week at Sports-Odds.com. Morgan posted a ridiculous 92-51-4 ATS record last season and he is ready to match that number with another incredible NFL run in 2012.
As for Manning, he enjoyed modest success opposite Pittsburgh during his time in Indianapolis as the Colts posted a 2-2 mark against the Steelers in his four career meetings with the Black and Gold. The last time he faced the Steelers, Manning led Indianapolis to a 24-20 victory at Heinz Field to snap Indy’s 40 year losing streak at Pittsburgh. The four time MVP completed 21-of-40 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Manning owns an 84.3 passer rating against the Steelers and he has thrown six touchdowns to four interceptions in his four meetings with the club.
The Steelers, a 5-3 road team last season, are just 3-7 in their last 10 meetings with Denver, but they are 2-2 in their last four trips to Mile High, scoring a 28-10 win in November of 2009 and a 34-17 victory in an AFC Championship meeting with the Broncos in January of 2006.
Pittsburgh is 4-1 in season openers under Head Coach Mike Tomlin and it is 3-2 in road openers on Tomlin’s watch. The Steelers were embarrassed at Baltimore in last year’s kickoff contest, falling 7-35 to their hated division rivals as a one point underdog.
The Broncos opened at Mile High against the Raiders last season, John Fox’s first with the club; they lost the game 20-23 as a three point home favorite.
NFL Picks Betting Trend: The Steelers are 2-8 both straight up and against the spread in their last 10 games as a road dog in the month of September.
