ravens rice cutbackMonday Night Football Spreads pull double duty this evening as the Cincinnati Bengals face the Baltimore Ravens and the San Diego Chargers tackle the Oakland Raiders in a West Coast night cap. Game one of tonight’s double header is scheduled to get underway at 7:00pm ET at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. Week 1 NFL Picks featured a few upsets and a number of strange games of which the Bengals hope to add to this evening. Cincinnati’s series with Baltimore has been characterized by momentum swings with each club piecing together two or three wins before allowing the other to return the favor.

Right now Baltimore holds the upper hand, having won three straight over its AFC North rival. The Bengals, after winning three in a row both straight up and against the spread between October of 2009 and September of 2010, have not been all that competitive in their last three meetings with the Ravens. Cincinnati averaged just 17.7 points per game in those games while losing by an average of seven points per contest.

Perhaps Marvin Lewis’ squad can keep the score a bit closer tonight, but given the Ravens home turf prowess, it seems unlikely. Baltimore went a perfect 8-0 at home last season, beating some of the league’s best teams in Pittsburgh, Houston, and San Francisco.

This year’s Ravens team may look a little different defensively with Terrell Suggs still out (Achilles’ tendon) and Ray Lewis and Ed Reed getting even longer in the tooth; however, if the preseason provided any indication, Joe Flacco and the offense may be ready to pick up some of the slack.

Bengals vs Ravens Pick: The Ravens are 8-2 both straight up and against the spread in their last 10 games as a home favorite in the month of September with a total between 37 and 41 points. Baltimore is also 6-0 straight up and 5-1 against the spread playing as a home favorite against an AFC North rival in the month of September.
