2012 NFL Predictions Week 2 on Chiefs vs Bills Spread

by Tyler Morgan on Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

bills spiller2012 NFL Predictions Week 2 tackle the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills today as these two former AFL franchises prepare to do battle this Sunday, September 15th at Ralph Wilson Stadium in upstate New York. While both teams laid an egg last Sunday, Buffalo is the team the odds makers expect to rebound this weekend. The latest NFL Odds have the Bills listed as a -3 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 44.5 points.

Week 2 NFL Picks: Kansas City’s season/home opener opposite Atlanta opened as a pick, but injuries and a suspension to Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali saw the line move to three with the Falcons giving points to Romeo Crennel’s squad. Three points proved a faulty spread, though, as Atlanta marched up and down the field on the Chiefs’ short handed defense en route to a 40-24 victory.

Kansas City’s offense kept the game close for a half, but a missed field goal early in the third quarter spelled doom for the club as it could not keep the Falcons out of the end zone. The Matt Cassel led offense began to press once the deficit reached double digits, but the unit, which is built upon a solid ground attack, failed miserably in a chase role.

Three second half turnovers, including two interceptions from Cassel, only compounded the team’s troubles while effectively negating an otherwise solid offensive showing (11-of-16 on third down, 393 total yards, 152 rush yards).

Buffalo suffered through a similar week one experience, losing to the division rival Jets at MetLife Stadium in New York. The Bills, like the Chiefs, out-gained their opposition (390 to 384), but four turnovers and some shoddy pass defense (9.9 yards per pass allowed) resulted in an ugly 48-28 final score.

Despite the Bills 41-7 win over the Chiefs in last season’s opener, Kansas City is the more talented of these two teams. That said, Buffalo seems to have some sort of hold over KC at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Bills are 5-1 both straight up and against the spread in their last six games as a home favorite against the Chiefs, and there is little evidence to suggest Crennel’s still ailing defense will be able to contain C.J. Spiller (14 carries for 169 yards and one touchdown against the Jets) or wide receiver Steve Johnson on Sunday.
