NFL Predictions Week 3 on Niners vs Vikings Line

by Scott Burgess on Friday, September 21st, 2012

The red hot San Francisco 49ers head to Minnesota, Sunday Sept 23rd, to face the Vikings, who lost last week to the Colts. The Niners have won four of their last five away from home, dating back to last season. The Vikings won their last meeting over the Niners 27-24, at home, but this was in 2009. But, this time the latest NFL Odds have the Vikings as +7 point homedogs against the spread with the game total set at 43.5 points. We recommend you compare NFL Betting Odds on the Niners vs Vikings Line.

San Francisco (2-0) beat the Detroit Lions 27-19, at home, in Week 2 during a September showdown of NFC powers. Vernon Davis caught touchdown passes of 21 and 23 yards from Alex Smith, who completed 20 of 31 throws for 226 yards and extended his franchise-record streak of passes without an interception to 216, leading the NFC West favorite Niners to their ninth straight win in the series.

The 49ers’ offensive line faces another tough challenge this week. Playing in his ninth NFL season, Vikings Jared Allen is third among active players with 105 career sacks and led the league in 2007 (15.5) in addition to last season. Alex Smith was sacked four times by Clay Matthews and the Packers in Week 1 and three times by Suh and the Lions in Week 2. How many will the offensive line give up against the Vikings?

San Francisco had converted three of its first 16 third downs this season, and faced three third downs during a 13 play 79 yard touchdown. Each time, Alex Smith went to Crabtree; each time, Crabtree got the first down, breaking a few tackles along the way.

Minnesota (1-1) suffered a 20-23 road loss to the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday. Minnesota rallied from a two-touchdown deficit in the final 5½ minutes, tying the score on a 6-yard TD pass from Christian Ponder to Kyle Rudolph with 31 seconds left. But, their defense allowed the Colts to get close enough to hit the winning field goal.

Adrian Peterson has had 33 carries over the first two weeks of the season. That’s more than we expected, and not that far below his career average of 19.2 carries-per-game.  Well the Vikings coaches think he’s ready for more carries. “We think he’s getting to that point where we can think about a few more carries,” Frazier said. “He’s getting close to that point, so we’ll see how he does this week in practice. … We’ve been rotating him and Toby every other series, but we’re going to see how he does this week in practice.”

After going 4-1 ATS last week, Sports-Odds.com recommends you check out our consensus Week 3 NFL Picks before the Sunday games kick off.
