The New York Giants and Green Bay Packers will take center stage this weekend, squaring off on NBC Sunday Night Football. The game is set to take place at Lambeau Field and the latest NFL Odds release from bookmaker Bovada.lv has the hosting Packers lined as a -7 Sunday Night Football pick against the spread home favorite; the Over/Under is set at 48 points.
The Giants season started well enough as they scored close wins over the Cowboys and Saints, but the last two weeks have presented more than a few problems.
New York owned a 14-3 at one point in its Week 3 clash with division rival Washington, but it ended up losing the contest 27-29. That setback was, of course, followed by the team’s dismal 24-10 Monday Night Football loss to the Vikings.
Adding insult to injury has been the seeming disconnect between star receiver Odell Beckham Jr and his teammates. Beckham’s emotional behavior has affected the team on the field in the form of some ugly penalties. The issue has been an off the field one as well with Eli Manning and others having to answer questions in regard to the receivers sideline rants.
In short, he’s become a distraction and his production has dropped too. Beckham has yet to score a touchdown this season and his current receiving yards per game average of 78.5 is the lowest of his career.
Can Beckham, Manning and the rest of the Giants offense turn things around against the Packers? The possibility exists.
Green Bay held the Vikings offense in check in a Week 2 loss at Minnesota, but it yielded 50 points in wins over Jacksonville and Detroit. The Packers also rank 29th in the league in passing yards per game allowed with a 307.3 average.
The bigger question, perhaps, is whether or not Aaron Rodgers can remain on track after his best showing of the season and, arguably, his top performance since early last season. Rodgers completed 15-of-24 passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns in Green Bay’s 34-27 Week 3 win over the Lions.
He will have a chance to against the Giants defense, which was less than remarkable in the aforementioned losses to the Redskins and Vikings.
Green Bay also comes into this contest off a bye and it has proven formidable when playing at home off of rest in recent seasons. In fact, the Packers are 5-1 straight up and 4-2 against the spread in that situation since 2008.
NBC Sunday Night Football Betting Trends:
The Packers are 5-1 both straight up and against the spread in their last six games playing as a -7 or more favorite coming off a bye.
The Giants are 0-5 both straight up and against the spread in their last five games playing as a road dog and coming off a road loss in which they scored 10 or fewer points.
