Colts vs Chiefs Spread 2012 NFL Predictions Week 16

by Scott Burgess on Thursday, December 20th, 2012

The Indianapolis Colts can secure a playoff berth, in Week 16, when they travel to Kansas City to face the woeful Chiefs, Sunday Dec 23. Win and they’re in, lose and face Houston for a playoff spot. The Colts lost their first game after winning three in a row, while the Chiefs have lost 10 of 11. Odds makers have the current NFL betting odds listing the Chiefs as +6 point homedogs against the spread with the game total set at 42.5 points.

The Colts (9-5, 3-4 V) lost to the Houston Texans 17-29, on the road, in Week 15 and could’ve clinched a playoff berth with a win. QB Andrew Luck threw for 186 yards with two touchdowns in the return to his hometown. He had led the Colts to a rookie-record six wins on drives in the fourth quarter or overtime this season, but couldn’t do it this week.

The Colts still have to win one of their last two games – either at Kansas City or at home against the Texans in week 17 – to make it official. The issue for this Colts team is that they’ve yet to play a complete game all year, instead putting together enough brilliant flashes to overcome a series of sub par opponents. One has to wonder if the Colts will be able to put together a 60-minute game this season. If they hope to be anything more than a nice story and one-and-done in the playoffs, they’ll likely have to.

RB Vick Ballard had his best game as a Colt. He had hard, decisive running leading to 105 yards on 18 carries (5.8ypc) against a very good Texans run defense.

The Chiefs (2-12, 1-6 H) got shutout by the Oakland Raiders 0-17, on the road, last Sunday. QB Brady Quinn completed 18 of 32 passes for 136 yards, while RB Jamaal Charles had nine carries for a low 10 yards. There has been little to cheer for this season for the Chiefs, who are tied for the second most losses in franchise history behind a 2-14 mark in 2008.

Steve Breaston continues to be inactive on game days for the Kansas City Chiefs, who certainly don’t have the luxury of sitting anyone who remotely looks like a playmaking threat. A game in which the Chiefs offense was virtually non-existent, Breaston had this to say about being inactive in favor of the likes of Jamar Newsome and Devon Wylie.  And that was with the Chiefs’ top receiver Dwayne Bowe on the shelf for the year with a rib injury. “I’m still not sure why I’m not playing,’’ Breaston told the Kansas City Star. “I’m past all that now. It just is what it is. There are other things for this team to worry about.’’
