Chiefs vs Colts Point Spread 2014 NFL Playoff Prediction

by Tyler Morgan on Monday, December 30th, 2013

chiefs charlesThe NFL Playoffs officially get underway on Saturday, January 4th with a Wild Card showdown between the Chiefs and Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Kickoff in the postseason opener is set for 4:35pm ET; the game will be broadcast live on NBC. The opening 2014 NFL Playoff Prediction for the game from Sportsbook.ag has the Colts listed as a -2.5 point spread favorite. The NFL Odds game total for the Chiefs/Colts game is set at 47 points.

Chiefs vs Colts Point Spread (-2.5, Over/Under 47): When these two teams met two weeks ago at Arrowhead Stadium, the underdog Colts scored a surprising 23-7 victory. Most would contend the Chiefs, after impressive opening drive, packed it in in an attempt not to reveal too much for a potential playoff meeting.

That may or may not have been the case, but what is certain is the Chiefs played their worst game of the season from a ball security stand point. Kansas City finished -4 in turnover margin and they held the ball just 21:40 as a result.

It is probably safe to assume the Colts will not benefit from such sloppiness on Saturday as the Chiefs ranked second in the league with a +18 turnover margin.

What Indianapolis should expect, though, is a healthy dose of Jamaal Charles.  Charles, who sat out yesterday’s regular season finale against the Chargers, carried the ball just 13 times against the Colts, but he gained 106 yards and scored on a 31 yard first quarter scamper. The Chiefs, thanks to Charles’ efforts as well as a six carry, 47 yard outing from quarterback Alex Smith, finished the game with 155 rushing yards on just 20 carries.

As far as the Colts are concerned, they would, no doubt, be pleased with a duplicate effort. Andrew Luck completed 26-of-37 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown while the Colts ground game managed a serviceable 135 yards on 34 carries.

Game Notes: The Colts won six home games this season and they defeated the top seed from each conference as a host; however, Indy also suffered losses to Miami and St. Louis at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Chiefs were 6-2 on the road this season with losses to the Broncos and Chargers.

Notable Trends: The Chiefs are 6-1 both straight up and against the spread in their last seven games as a road dog with a spread between 0 and 3.5 points.
