Erik Seidel was born in New York City in November 1959. He did not start out as a poker player initially. In fact, the game of choice for Erik Seidel during his early years was actually backgammon! Erik Seidel was one of the groups of infamous poker players at the Mayfair Club, New York, which included the likes of Howard Lederer and Dan Harrington . Here he played backgammon along with poker. Seidel started out as a tournament backgammon player and played the game for eight years before moving on to playing the stock market. However, his interest in poker remained and he continued to play the game on the side. Get all of the latest WSOP of poker betting odds at Bodoglife.com.

Erik Seidel Professional Poker PlayerErik Seidel finally realized that he had a knack for the game and moved to Las Vegas to pursue this interest in poker on a professional level. Erik Seidel is known to be a quiet and reserved player, sometimes considered over cautious but with an ability to change his strategy when required. His first major poker tournament happened in 1988, the World Series of Poker, where he achieved the second position. Since then he has managed to add eight World Series of Poker bracelets with around 48 cash finishes. Erick’s total tournament winnings up until 2007 have been estimated at 7,000,000$.

Erik is known to be a careful player who likes to hold his cards close to his heart; literally…at tournaments he has been observed to hide his cards even from the TV cameras. Erick Seidel also achieved recognition and fame for his portrayal in the movie “Rounders”, on his 1988 defeat at the World Series of Poker, where he lost the last hand of poker to Johnny Chan.

Erik Seidel might not enjoy the same amount of fame as some of the other better-known poker players, but in his eventful career as a poker player he has managed to gain the respect of his contemporaries, and is one of the most respected players on the poker circuit.
