Thomas James (TJ) Cloutier was born in 1939 and is one of the most successful and famous poker players on the WSOP poker circuit today. TJ Cloutier is already off to a great start at this year's 2008 World Series of Poker. He was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2006 and has been playing poker – and winning for decades. Cloutier first learned how to play poker after he was drafted into the army and continued to play on his days off when he was working for an oil company after his army stint. He turned pro when he realized he was making more money playing poker than he was on the oil rigs.

Although he has never won the main event at the WSOP, has won six of the coveted WSOP bracelets. He has also won 59 major tournament titles and has 39 final table appearances at the WSOP, more than any other player in the world. As of 2007, his total live tournament winnings are more than $8.7 million. Even a brain tumor and heart attack in 2004 couldn't keep Cloutier down; it was in 2005 that he won his sixth bracelet and added more than 657,000 to his winnings when he took the title at the $5000 No Limit Hold'em event at the WSOP.
Cloutier shares much of his poker knowledge in his books and articles. He has co-authored four books with Tom McEvoy and released his sole endeavor in 2006, a book titled, "How To Win The Championship: Hold'em Strategies for The Final Table". He also writes for Card Player Magazine. TJ Cloutier is married and has six children. He and his wife, Joy, live in Richardson, Texas.
