Thuan Nguyen aka. Scotty Nguyen 2008 WSOP Odds were dashed when he was busted out by Tom Dwan. Dwan busted Scotty Nguyen when his 7-5 low beat Nguyen and Shawn Sheikhan in a three-way pot. Scotty Nguyen was born in Nha Trang, Vietnam on October 28, 1962.

His life story is the old tale of rags to riches. Scotty had a very dangerous time in Vietnam when he and 138 other people tried to escape by boat to Thailand.  By the time they were rescued there were 90 fewer people on the boat.  He claims they had to swim in shark-infested water in search of food when they ran out. They were forced to do this as the trip took a great deal more time than they had provisions for.  They had provisions for two days and the trip took 22 days.

After Scotty Nguyen was rescued he and the others were put on an island where they were forced to stay for six months.  Later on (1974) he was allowed to come to the United States.  Scotty Nguyen was not much of a student and he was finally expelled for missing so many days of classes.  Scotty was taking real money classes in poker in Orange County poker rooms.  He became a poker dealer and his poker education was fast-forwarded.  Nguyen claims he learned a great deal watching how the winners and losers played.  With this knowledge he became a formidable player for all who sat at his table.
