The question of who will start the 51st Daytona 500 on the front row is settled. Martin Truex Jr. has earned the pole position and Mark Martin will start outside in row-1 after qualifying at the Daytona 500 time trials on Sunday (Feb.8). Truex qualifed fastest by rounding the 2.5 mile oval in 47.872 seconds equaling 188.001 miles per hour. Truex edged out Martin for the pole who qualified his Kellogg's Impala at 187.817 mph.
Perhaps the most joyous racing team in Daytona after qualifying was the Wood Brothers whose Motorcraft Ford driven by Bill Elliott was fifth fastest at 187.739 mph. The run guaranteed the team of a spot in the race. Their actual starting position will depend on how they finish in the Gatorade Duel 150 qualifying races.
