There are some nice surprises in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series points standings after seven races. Jeff Gordon is still the points leader and after taking the checkered flag in the Samsung 500 a week ago, has a win to his credit. Gordon currently has 1154 points, a 162-point lead over Jimmy Johnson with 992. Gordon has six top-10 finishes and Johnson has five. Both Gordon and Johnson are teammates on the Hendrick Motorsports team. Oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog at Bodoglife.com list Gordon as a 3/1 odds favorite on the Bodog betting board to win the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.
One of the pleasant surprises is the re-emergence of Kurt Busch of Penske Racing. Busch, the 2004 points champion finished out of the top-10 in three of the four years since winning the championship. Busch, formerly with owner Jack Roush, moved to the Penske team in 2006. Currently, Busch is in third place in the points race with 974 points. Oddsmakers at Bodog list Kurt's points winning odds at 8/1. Busch's younger brother Kyle Busch is a 5/1 favorite but is currently sitting in seventh place in the points race.
Clint Bowyer of Richard Childress Racing and the 2008 Nationwide Series points champion, is currently holding down fourth place in this years Sprint Cup series. Bowyer has three top-5 and four top-10 finishes this season. The Bodog at Bodoglife.com betting NASCAR Sprint Cup betting board has Bowyer listed a longshot to win the points battle at 20/1 odds.
