One that comes from a family of turf runners, there have been some of Stately Victor’s relatives including himself that have done above average on dirt as well as mud. His father, Ghostzapper, truly made a name for himself between 1991 & 1992 bringing victory after victory 1st place finishes with only 2 losses out of 11 races. I’m sure there are many out there that are hoping this colt will in fact take after his father.
“Didn’t I tell you?” he shouted as he entered the winner’s circle. “… He’s been a winner since he was foaled,” owner Thomas Conway stated after Stately Victor won the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes on Saturday at Kenneland. “If I couldn’t win the Derby, I’d want to win this race.”
I’m sure owner Thomas Conway and trainer Michael Maker are both hoping Stately Victor who’s coming in at 40 to 1 odds will continue his winning streak to the Kentucky Derby on May 1st. With his pedigree known for maturing late, it could possibly be the reason the 3-year-old colt hasn’t been bringing in the finishes in past races in 2010.
Conway added, “My dad and I would walk out on the third floor at Churchill Downs and we’d want to be over there about 45 minutes before the race so you could see the horses come over and make that walk,” Jack Conway said. “Dad always told me, ‘One day we’re going to make that walk.’ ”
